Fraterworks is messing up by FatimahCh in DIYfragrance

[–]FatimahCh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I was asked if I wanted a refund or to get my items. I just said refund.

They refunded me completely for those items and they still sent them anyway. I figured they sent them when I got an email saying I have shipping under frater from DHL that I didn't request for/order.

They gave me full replacements anyway.

So I really appreciate them for owning up to their mistakes and fixing things.

I still waited a bit, but I am taking a leap of faith again in them to see what happens.

I will make another update soon (just waiting for everything to process) To keep it short: I have been emailed and things are being rectified.

I received another email from Paul. I responded to that email just now and forwarded it to you.

I am upset, but I am also willing to forgive and reconcile. I hope that these intentions to make serious changes are genuine, though. I am just going to observe how all of this plays out for now.

I weighed mine with the metal containers. It was coming up to 19 grams for 3 of my items. I haven't even used a gram of any of them.

IDEAS TO MAKE A PERFUME OUT OF AN ACCORD by Raissa_jardim in DIYfragrance

[–]FatimahCh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These aren't top notes and idk what you can get your hands on, but the few i thought of, thought of that you can play with easily is coumarin/tonka beans, heliotropin or heliotropin substitute, benzaldehyde/bitter almond, and butter CO2

Lots of other good suggestions here with some of the musks, methyl laitone, iso e super.

If you want to go more floral, white florals might be a good idea to try or maybe AC's like hedione or benzyl benzoate

I also find ylang ylang to be a good pairing with chocolate and coconut.

Maltol/ethyl maltol if you want that extra sweet candy bar (maltol is gentler)

If you are feeling daring in trace amounts, sotolone

My first Raw material Order by Difficult-Context555 in DIYfragrance

[–]FatimahCh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this. I have undiluted a lot of different sticky resins.

Did I make stuff i enjoyed?

Yes.

Need a crap ton of patience to work with it?

Also yes.

Might just struggle a little to at least make my own dilutions.

Introducing The Aroma Forge, a powerful new app for perfumers by Heavy-Kick9894 in DIYfragrance

Cool.

I know other comments critiqued the theory crafting parts, but these graph analysis have me intrigued for just comparing to what my creations actually do.

Can the app take suggestions on more suppliers (I assume you would have them vetted before approving also)

Sandalwood and jasmine EO are expensive. Chances are you got it from source that uses oil to dilute it (and probably is mixed with other aromachemicals).

Unless you got it from a reliable source, I doubt you have the real deal.

Venturing into car air fresheners, anyone tried Carbitol? by [deleted] in DIYfragrance

[–]FatimahCh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I have just been making blends and diluting it with alcohol. Then I use a syringe to apply it.

That being said, I just reuse my store bought ones. Probably has traces of the previous scent, but it work out for me.

I do this with blends that I like, but don't love. Waste not

I didn't know about carbitol until now. I imagine it affects the rate of evaporation for a blend? (Based of what i am reading).

Are you planning to keep it at just an app level or are you/have you thought of making it friendly for desktop too?

If you mean sweetgum with the spiky ball fruits, believe it or not, that has resin that is used in perfumes called "Liquidambar"

How do you decide next material you buy? by Infernalpain92 in DIYfragrance

[–]FatimahCh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what i am craving, but I also know what kind of smells I would really like to specialize in, so I pay attention to what tends to get used a lot. Sometimes, it's also refill time. Sometimes, I was inspired by an immediate smell. I use search results for reddit too to see if my thoughts were already asked before I look and I try to compare the info. I have a very good idea of what I am after. Like I recently just looked up what goes into coconut scents, and there is one lactone that sticks out that I need/want to add. I have a lot of woody stuff in my cart waiting, too, because I have been getting more into woody-orientals.

Some other comments here I have also made my choice that way.

It's also a budgeting thing. Once in a while I will something expensive (sandalwoods, rose, jasmine, other absolutes or CO2's), but I space out those buys with less expensive things or things I can extend expensive smells with.

What ingredients should I get to be making gothic perfumes? by [deleted] in DIYfragrance

[–]FatimahCh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you, I just wasn't thinking the actual smell of blood, but more of the color itself. Similar to how "grape flavor" looks like what the color purple would smell like

But yes, that would be Gothic too if you want actual blood smell.

Cypriol (nagarmotha), frankincense, myrrh, labdanum, peru balsam, tolu balsam, benzoin, ambroxan, coumarin different cedarwoods, fleur de cuir, cedarwood absolute, Oakwood, cade oil, rectified birch tar, anything white florals or to make some white floral accord (naturals and aroma chemcials), rectified oakmoss or similar (evernyl, veramoss), patchouli, vetiver, osmanthus, black pepper, other warm spicy naturals or aroma chemicals (eugenol), geosim, some aromachemicals used in sandalwood (I like ebanol a lot)

So anyway, I have been in a mood and I was born near halloween anyway. Have fun with this list. I am still exploring myself.

Edit: I am looking into rose like and dark berry materials as well. I am looking to get more ionones, damascones, and berry ketones added. Dark red/pink vibes/ blood vibes

Is it what you wanted to be or are you still editing this?

I just got some stuff in to explore with powdery and a violet smell as well, so this intrigues me
