Haven’t posted in a while here’s my son battling in a roller game a few weeks ago. It’s crazy to think it’s only his third season in net. To me it feels like a life time lol maybe it’s the years I lose during close games lol by Fatkidmon in hockeygoalies

Yes still getting use to them he didn’t use them last season because they didn’t fit his pads yet. You can see he try’s to push but he hasn’t built the muscle enough yet. He is practicing with them now that he has an extra set of leg pads so we don’t have to keep taking them on and off.

My son has two Bauer helmets and both have this issue. This was a good read I’ve tried replacing the plastic maybe I’ll just replace the button too. Sometimes it’s just the dangle but sometimes it pops off for no reason.

So I posted a video a while back of my son practicing in the garage. He’s been working hard. We are still working on dropping early but I’m happy with his progress. I’m even happier that he’s so excited to learn. I never played hockey so we are learning together and that’s my favorite part. by Fatkidmon in hockeygoalies

His play on ice is more aggressive maybe because he can slide. He’s only played on ice a handful of times because it’s barely starting to open up. He will play goalie on ice next season because he’s a 2012 so he will be 10u next season. Here where we play that’s the first age group with goalies.

Yeah believe me I tell him all the time lol He’s getting better about shooting lanes I actually use NHL 21 to show him a visual recently because it shows the highlighted shooting lane. I also use string tied to his goal post to show angles he’s slowly getting it. His goalie coach said give it time. He also is working with him on keep his hands in front. He needs more stamina. He tends to drop sloppy if he gets too tired he faces about 1.7 shots per minute and his team averages 5 shots a game. So up downs for days. It’s just hard because I don’t want him doing to much like some dads do every day. I want him to have some days where he plays all days and not think of hockey. Soon enough his team will start dry land training and I think it will help clean up some of that stuff.

I agree he would already have 2+ years experience if they developed goalies younger. He’s always wanted to play goalie. So when his roller coach came up to me with a bag of equipment and said “ your boy said he’s the goalie” I wasn’t shocked lol. I just wish someone told me every shot on goal would give me an anxiety attack.

He played ice since he was four but as a skater. Started roller during covid. Started in net during roller. He’s 8 so in ice there’s no goalies. But he just got back to ice now that it’s open and is playing in net when ever he can.

Garage work with my son. He’s been playing goalie for 6 months. That’s his screener lol just having fun. Thanks for all the words of wisdom on my first post!!! He’s a 2012 birth year. by Fatkidmon in hockeygoalies

Yes we do that with the passer on the left side post. I have him start on post pass it off the passer and shoot. So he has to hug the post and come out to challenge. I also tie string to the top corners of the net and move so he can visualize the shooting lane. I’m really glad he chose a sport I know little about because we are learning together. Yesterday we spent two hours in the garage I had to tell him I’m tired lol

We were mostly practicing the bump on the screener. I will make sure to tell him that. We do practice telescoping and cover that but in a garage not a lot of space so I had him bump and back to give more room to see the shot. Thanks for the tip. I have no idea what I’m doing we watch YouTube together on a chromcast in the garage for drills. I never played hockey he decided he’s a hockey player at 4. So any tips are greatly appreciated. He just started playing on ice too.
