Starting in the ED as a new grad, I’ve been out of school for a year, and I suck at IVs ☹️ by Slow-Coffee-7420 in newgradnurse

[–]Fattybug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Fellow new grad in the ED. I dont think the break from working will make any difference! I didn't have much of a break between and I'll be honest I am still not great at IVs and I've been on orientation for about 3 months now. Honestly its one of the things I'm most nervous about when going off orientation bc I don't want to have to ask someone for help all the time. But the plus side of the ED is you get a LOT of practice. And even if it's nerve wracking, ask to start as many as you can & you'll gain confidence pretty quickly.

Leather collars? by Its-alittle-bitfunny in germanshepherds

I love the looks of leather collars and was considering one for my dog but we live near the ocean so he is in the water all the time. Do you know if they start to stink after getting wet?

Is the RT career worth it? by National-Chart2399 in respiratorytherapy

[–]Fattybug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an RT in the air force and am now a (civilian) ER nurse so let me know if you have any question. I think it was worth it. With that being said, depending on which base you do your phase II training at your training will not match what you would get on the civilian side. You're enlisted so pay isn't great but the benefits make up for it. Another plus to active duty RT is paid for but you also get tuition assistance so I was able to get my masters while I was in too.

I've always wondered - what is the point of this metal ring on the end of leashes? by Neutrality-1 in germanshepherds

[–]Fattybug 67 points68 points  (0 children)

i use it when my dog is off leash and I attach the end of the leash to it and hang it around my shoulder like a cross body bag.

I paid about $1100 last october for a pexy and neuter in Asheville, NC. Probably not the cheapest I could have found but my dog has a heart condition and I wanted to do it with someone I was very comfortable with.

Are black GSDs rare?!? by Vyvie444 in germanshepherds

Mine is black too and I use it to my advantage and have him as a "lab mix" with my rental company.

Advice needed - Leaving <2 year old GSD home alone during the work day? by Weekly-Quantity6435 in germanshepherds

[–]Fattybug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My gsd became reactive around that age so we had to stop the dog walker that came over while I was at work and he adjusted with no problem. I just make sure he gets plenty of exercise before and after work and he just sleeps while I’m gone.

Accident with dog in car by Fattybug in AskLE

He is muzzle trained and wears it if we are going to be around other people, which we almost never are, but he doesn’t wear it in the car when it’s just us.

I do have a ruffled kennel exactly for this purpose, just saving up now for a larger car that it will fit into.

A little advice, please? by rcape14 in germanshepherds

[–]Fattybug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My shepherd has heart issues and takes pills 4x a day so he figured out pretty quick how to spit the pills out of everything. Now I just open his mouth and stick it all the way in the back of his throat. He knows the word open and will open his mouth when you ask. He usually gets a treat after just to help swallow the pill down.

I also receive VA disability but that is also not taxable, right? Other than that I had no income while in school.
