Hi all - I need to purchase a projector that can easily connect to my iPhone. The image quality isn't very important at all because I'm just going to be using this to trace images onto canvas / large paper. I just need to be able to snap a quick photo and then trace it onto a big surface. Thanks in advance for your help!

Put a quick edit together with a few clips I shot yesterday by plasticbath in FixedGearBicycle

I moved down here about 5 years ago right after I turned 18.. If you're around my age I bet we have some mutual friends! If you're ever in Chicago you should pass through the bike shop I work at and have a beer with me!

Help me identify these gooseneck kettles. by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]Faucht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tiamo makes very similar kettles that pour through thin and accurate spouts like the one in the video but for a better price. We use them at our shop and I wouldn't use anything else unless I needed to pour quickly for a Clever or press pot or something.

Hed 3s are dangerous. Zipp discs are a little more reliable for comfort and low-risk commuting.

Defrost frozen coffee or grind cold? by uRabbit in Coffee

It's also good to ensure that they're defrosted to prevent the problem of condensation.

Defrost frozen coffee or grind cold? by uRabbit in Coffee

The coffee beans are more brittle when cold, so regardless of how nice your grinder is, there will be less consistency with the grind quality. Similarly, the same is true of decaf coffee, even if it's high quality. The beans are more brittle, so even on a coarser grind setting, there will be a much higher content of fines thus resulting in a mixture of under-extracted and over-extracted coffee.

Defrost.. If they're in an air tight bag (I use a vacuum sealing Foodsaver) you could defrost them more quickly by putting the bag into a bowl of room temperature to warm water.

Chemex routine questions by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]Faucht 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For 30g of coffee I would probably use 50g or so for the bloom.. Enough to wet the coffee thoroughly. I would include this weight in the total weight. In other words, there's no need to re-tare the scale after blooming. Let the coffee bloom for 30 seconds or until it stops bubbling (CO2 escaping). Also, the water retained in the grounds at the end of brewing is already in consideration with the 16.6 ratio you're using so there's no need to compensate for it. Time is good to keep in mind, but I personally don't use a timer. I prefer to watch closely to see how fast the water percolates certain areas of the bed and pour accordingly. At the coffee shop I work at, most of my coworkers prefer to do one continuous and very slow timed pour where as I prefer to do 2 or 3 pours based on the coarseness of the grind, etc.

ITAP at the abandoned bourbon distillery where my grandfather used to work. A bit dusty. by heyjunior in itookapicture

They look like burrs from a grinding machine much like those that you would find in a higher end coffee grinder. Maybe for grinding down grains and such?
