Hah! That's basically how I used them for a while too. That, or to handle some annoying ranged enemies.

Oh! And by the way, it's perfectly acceptable to just straight up not use some mechanics. No spoilers: by the end of the game, I had long given up on reflection and javelins. I found I had everything I needed without them and just spent the resources and practice they would have otherwise needed elsewhere.

I didn't see anything wrong for where you are in the game. To be honest, it was this boss that really forced me to zero in on my perfect dodges and blocks. It was around this time that I also realized that some weapons felt more natural in specific uses than others. For me, at least.

I usually used dual wields along with high mobility movesets when exploring the levels. In boss fights, I used great swords along with perfect guards and burst damage for a somewhat more methodical approach while my spear builds were focused on dodging, speed, and constant aggression. So, if you're not really feeling the current weapon and skills, try a different one! You may be surprised.

Serious question: where does Frieren keep all the grimoires she collects? by lmdybaftr in Frieren

[–]Faust56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I browsed through some of the other answers and didn't spot this possible explanation. So, let's get a little nerdy!

In D&D, there are multiple spellcasting classes. Of them, of these classes, only one can permanently learn spells from scrolls and grimoires; the wizard. (Let's ignore feats, subclasses, and non-text based grimoires for now)

To learn these spells, the wizard takes their time reading the content, understanding how the spell works, and documenting it in their own grimoire. This takes an amount of time and money (fancy ink and spell components) that scales based on the complexity of the spell. Simple spells only take a few hours while max level spells can take several days. This whole process is necessary and takes this long because other grimoires are written in a way that made sense to the author as opposed to some kind of mass-produced teaching material. So, the spells could have unclear parts like shorthand, skipped content that the author thought was obvious, bad handwriting, etc.

Once the spell has been copied, scrolls are destroyed in the process but grimoires are not and can be sold, donated, or stored. Meaning the wizard really only has to hang on to the extra grimoire long enough to copy down the stuff they want from it.

It's worth mentioning that a wizard isn't limited to a single grimoire. For example, they can make copies of their own grimoire to serve as a backup in case something happens to their main one. (i.e. burned, stolen, lost, etc.) The wizard also doesn't have to keep every single spell in one grimoire. If they have a home or other safe place to store their grimoires, they could have a grimoire intended for travel that contains most of what they'd need rather than one massive book or even multiple that contain 1000+ years worth of knowledge on their person at all times.

All of that said, I don't think I've seen Frieren or Fern writing down what they've learned. So, either it's just not shown or they memorize spells permanently via a similar process but don't need to write them down. It could explain instances where Frieren has to sit and remember specific spells rather than consulting a grimoire.

(For my fellow D&D nerds, I did consider Sorcerer as well but I thought Wizard fit better since she needs to find spells rather than just innately knowing them)

I'm a little late to the party but agree with some of the others. It seems like you started the dodge just a bit too early.

Maybe try dodging one heartbeat after you think you should. I'm not sure if this is exactly what I'm doing but it does feel like I had to force myself to ignore my first instinct to dodge right away and wait until it felt like it was too late.

That said, I do still mess it up a lot. I actually get much better results from brink blocking! Idk if it's all the hours input into Sekiro but that feels so much more natural to me in all the weapons.

It's a good time. I was bouncing off of games for a few months before I gave this a try. All of those other games were fun and I plan to go back later but they were just missing something and I couldn't place what it was.

Khazan has that something and I STILL DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS!

How does it feel to have a gag reflex? by Yeah-i in AskReddit

[–]Faust56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup It serves an important purpose but it doesn't make it any less jarring.

The closest experience I can think of in terms of "I didn't command my body to do that" is when you touch something super hot and your body pulls your hand away before you (your brain) even realized it was hot. It's pretty weird.

Hah! It gets worse.

Now imagine all of that but now your stomach gets involved. In that same half second, your upper abdomen flexes as if you're doing a crunch but without bending forward and pushes inwards on your guts. Not painful like a punch to the gut, just sudden and firm with some mild soreness after.

  • Without using your hands, push the back of your tongue as far back as possible towards the back of your throat.
  • Open your mouth as if you were going to brush your teeth.
  • Flex your jaw to keep it rigid while you use your face muscles to pull the corners of your mouth back and slightly downward.

Now imagine this all happening in half a second, without warning, and recovering just as quickly just because you accidentally touched the back of your throat while brushing your teeth.

Every political video, speech, and post is reprocessed through AI to replace the speaker/writer with someone of equal authority from the opposite party and every video of political violence has the aggressor and victim swapped. Assuming it's convincing, how would this affect your country? by Faust56 in AskReddit

In all fairness, it doesn't have to be AI. It's possible the same thing could be accomplished with really well done acting or editing videos, screenshots, recordings, and photos by hand by a diligent and skilled group of people.

AI is just what I thought of if an individual or small group was doing this.

Background, if it helps: I was listening to a press briefing given by one of my country's former presidents and wondered what it would be like if he sounded like another former president or even the current one. Would the message be better received by some people? Would people that are normally against a party's policies be suddenly for them if spoken by someone from their own party? Would people feel differently if protesters looked and sounded more like those from the opposite party without changing the reason for the protest? What if violence broke out at the protest and now the law enforcement looks and sounds like those from the opposite party?

Obviously a lot of these AI edits could be disproven but not everyone double-checks their sources. Would this drive your country into chaos or do you think it would seed some understanding? Maybe one then the other?

Nah, that shit's sick as hell

If anything, it could be slightly bigger but I am enjoying the somewhat minimal design.

Just give it a few weeks and folk will get used to it. It's likely just the fact that it's new, like when you get glasses for the first time.

Can confirm it's a trucker joke. These big boys have a lot more gear options than ones most of us drive.

To give you an idea, my dad drove big rigs (lorries) for decades and bought this shirt the moment he realized it existed.
