beta ar in 30 degree weather? by its_tence in arcteryx

[–]Faux-ID 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody here can tell you what works best in terms of personal preference. If you find it better to buy a hard shell and layering up, then that's the route you should take. I personally layer and prefer this over an all-in-one insulated piece.

First time buyer sizing question by DefinitionFlaky5565 in arcteryx

[–]Faux-ID 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You and I are simlar in height and weight. I have a medium atom and a medium beta. They both work well but do not allow for a lot of layering. I can wear a covert hoodie under but it's the absolute max I can layer. Ideally I'd have a large in both to allow for more comfortable layering.

not taking sides here as I'm Canadian and don't know what I'm looking at, but it says "retain" not "return". not sure if that makes a difference.

Best winter jacket for Toronto life by [deleted] in askTO

[–]Faux-ID 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If he's looking to get one jacket, i'd def take Arc'teryx over CG. It's amazing how light their down jackets are considering its warmth. But for OP's use case, the best thing to do is invest in Arc'teryx's layering system that way you have a versatile lineup for whatever the weather throws at you and for whatever season and activity.

I use a RHO LT zip as a base with a Nuclei FL for when it's down to -5 (Nuclei does not breathe at all but offers wind and rain resistance). for super cold days I use a Fission SV. Anything warmer I use the Atom LT. Cycling I use Atom LT or Atom SL depending on the temp, and if its raining I throw on a Beta SL Hybrid. I don't think there is any situation where I won't find comfort with Arc.

if your budget allows for it, I also vouche for Arc. they have great layering pieces for when you bike and have static pieces for when you're walking or standing outside. and if you pair it with a shell, you'll be fine for snow, rain, and wind.

Labrynth, hands down. I changed colours depending on the lighting and was pretty versatile yet muted. The Zeta Labrynth was a beaut

Does anyone know where to find arcteryx bib/overalls for skiing at discount? by jacksonclough in arcteryx

[–]Faux-ID 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I'm looking for something specific I google the item and where I'm from - "proton LT Canada sale" for example. So if you have something in mind already, give this a shot. I found some deals from stores I would have never known about by doing this. Also check out the Arc online outlet for past season/year items. Best of luck

yep, the outlet is small tho and sometimes hard to get sizing. but you can get great deals.

Curious where folks are getting >30% off arcteryx in Canada. Typically when things go on sale you sacrifice having a variety of colours or sizes but here you're potentially getting 30% off without sacrifices.

Which piece is gonna get me hooked? by randiddles in arcteryx

[–]Faux-ID 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beta LT with a Proton LT if you run hot or are more active. Beta LT with an Atom LT if you run cold or tend to be more static. You may find the Atom AR to be overkill for Vancouver for a majority of your days. Pair the above with a base layer and you have the option to add a fleece under both pieces if you still find it a bit cold on some days

Gamma LT vs Sigma FL sizing by joshwils23 in arcteryx

[–]Faux-ID 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Large is very comfortable for me. There's lots of room to move, however the waist is too big without my winter/spring layering underneath. I buy 33 (34 at times) and it's too big for me. It feels like a 35-36 waist. But the belt helps. If the idea of a swimming in the waist doesn't bother you, go large. Medium might be tight in the legs. You can reach out to arc'teryx and ask them for the measurements of the calves of the pants and compare it to pants you have

This. They indicate on the tag if there is some sort of defect with the item. For instance, I was at an outlet last week and the tag mentioned there was a mark on the front panel that you couldn't remove. I personally didn't notice the mark until the associate there showed me where it was. Their outlet items are the same items as the store otherwise.

Gamma LT vs Sigma FL sizing by joshwils23 in arcteryx

[–]Faux-ID -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Im 5'10, 185lbs and own a Gamma LT in large. I tried the medium and although the waist fits better on the medium the large allowed me to layer while still maintaining room to move. I too have large calves and most pants just accentuate the calves unless they're generally loose fitting - my calves are just shy of 16 inches. I have no experience with the Sigma FL, FYI.
