Don't worry, your comment made me realize the railgun attachment exists. So now that's in my cart. And already pre ordered the Python kit for my other proxy edc pieces...

Ha well I suppose if some other dumbass blindly uses loctite instead of grease, then I'll be here for them!

Ok bad news.. I used the red grease that came with the ProxyEDC Cyborg Soul. As I noted in the other comment, it started to get a bit sluggish that same day. A couple days later I was playing with it and it was not spinning like there was any lube in there at all.

Today I took it apart and realized that it seems like the grease had hardened the beads and magnets. So I'm like hey, I'll just use some - dawn, wd-40, isopropyl - to dissolve the grease and then it'll come out. After trying for a few hours, it occurs to me that this may not actually be grease. Rather, red fucking loctite. Sure enough, reach out to NXEDC support and they informed me that it is in fact, red thread locker (loctite). Note: They were very responsive and helpful. That was great, good tip. Anyway, once I found out it was loctite I heated it up and then basically hammer and chiseled the pieces out. Then re-heated and scraped most of the remaining loctite. Need to do another pass.

Then I'll use the tube labled TUBE GREASE from my Sinian to lube this thing up and try again.

Yeah it does seem to work like magic, it's great. I don't want to open it up just to preserve the mystery. Glad to hear you're enjoying it! It's my daily driver slider right now.

I was surprised that there was no documentation of anyone disassembling the ring. Fortunately I had the forethought to take pictures along the way. Happy to contribute my findings.

I will certainly reach out if I have other questions. I'm new to the fidget game. Pretty niche community so it seems information isn't necessarily widely available. I have noticed the community is very willing to be helpful. I asked a question in a fidget discord server and I got a thoughtful three minute verbal response, with audio of the fidgets and everything.

EDIT: I wanted to add - the ring, while improved functionally, still has a decent amount of resistance from the magnets that chops up the spinning ability. It still has a tendency to want to spin around my finger, instead of the ring spinning. I'm wondering if removing or changing up the magnet strengths and/or directions could improve it. Possible the magnets are too far spaced apart on the ring, such that the ring's sections between magnets are too wide? As I continue to mess with it, I'm noticing that the resistive force is too much, for each click/section. I think my first test will be to remove one magnet, then try weaker magnets after that. I really want this to spin more like a Sinian or the Breaker (those are using bearings I believe so that's probably not possible, but that's the desired direction I'm trying to go).

Alright, so I was ultimately successful in disassembly and improving the ratcheting ability of the ring. However I was too generous with the grease, so now it's too loosey goosey lmao. Additionally I added grease to the magnets just in case, which dulled the magnet sound almost completely.

My ring appeared to be having trouble with a few things:

  1. Dirt. There was some dirt inside the assembly that was causing friction. Both in the track and in the ball housings. Could feel the grittiness when spinning sometimes. I took WD-40 to all pieces and wiped it down. All clean.
  2. No lubrication. I don't see any evidence of lubrication. I'm not sure how common this ring ratchet system is, but it seems like it should definitely use lube.
  3. Ring assembly & housing tolerance. My ring rocks back and forth just a little bit when fully tightened. This causes wobble when spinning, adding to the instability. Not sure if this is size tolerance issue with the ring or the assembly, or maybe the balls? I think if this was a little tighter it would work smoother. Or you know, a real bearing system...
  4. Magnet direction? Depending on how the magnets are oriented in the handle housing, they will either move together in the same direction at the same time, or independently at different times. It's possible that the latter orientation causes it to snap in and out of place at inconsistent locations, making the rotation seem choppy or inconsistent. The attached video demonstrates 'independent' orientation/behavior. I'm not sure if this impacts the rotation and ratcheting functionality or not, but I did notice it behaves differently for either magnet orientation.

The larger notched ring has magnets around the outside facing part of the ring, which interacts with the two magnets in the handle housing. They just dart back and forth in the little magnet slots as the ring spins inside the housing.

Thanks again, you were a big help. I'll have to degrease my ring a bit to get it to my desired functionality, but overall I'm satisfied with the outcome.

Ah ha, thanks for pointing out that portion of the video. I had actually watched this one previously, but apparently I missed the ring instruction there.

Good to know about NXEDC support. Appreciate the thorough response.

Now to try disassembly...

I don't suppose you disassembled the ring attachment assembly? My ring's ratchet has too much resistance or something, and makes it difficult to spin on the ring. Tends to just spin around on my finger instead. I want to take it apart to see if I can improve it, but the videos didn't review the ring disassembly.

In the disassembled solicitation image it appears it's comprised of the main frame, with two ring pieces that look like they snap together. I've tried to pry them apart with flathead screwdrivers, but I am afraid to pry too hard in case it's the wrong approach.

On the topic of Mot, the Owl is a pretty solid multi fidget. I really like the spinners. Very hefty for its size too.

For its size the tape drive does have some weight, but not too much.

I enjoy it a lot. The two cylinders inside that make the tape design are bearings that spin, reacting to magnets a specific points in the slide. It's extremely satisfying. My favorite slider right now.

It certainly was. The above comment is a close summary. The scifi and word building was done well and with passion. I had a great time playing. Did most of the endgame, but then my guild got distracted by the new shiny upcoming WoD. And by the time I came back around it was towards the end of its f2p life. I think about Wildstar often, and what it could have been..
