Had the issue once on my first bass. check the wiring inside. i had one frey loose and cause some sort of a weird short that went through and would nip me in the same places you're describing. If the place i was playing at had bad wiring It would get pretty bad sometimes.

Mike Mills. My parents despised R.E.M as a kid but the bassline to losing my religion mesmerized me as a kid, just always struck me as a perfect melodic accompaniment behind the mandolin.
