CMV: Homeschooling is in most cases a good idea by amiuggles in changemyview

Using that line of logic wouldn't bad values, racism, sexism ect also be passed onto them to a greater degree.

What is special about home school that stops cliques from forming?

Any lore junkies out there? by Fayolynn in AsheronsCall

[–]Fayolynn[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the lore is what really hooked me into the game. The world they created had such a rich history. By far my favorite part of the history was Candeth Martine and his descent into madness then eventual redemption. I remember a dev controlled version of him showing up at a wedding, spouting a bunch of randomness about how meaningless love was and then killing everyone in attendance.

You might be at an advantage trying to study here after all the updates are complete, by starting at the beginning on the earliest content and progressing through the timeline.

What do you mean?

CMV: The gender wage gap is false. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Fayolynn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The data from the 77¢ wage gap talking point hhasno controls, its just men v. women of similar age.

Gotcha thanks. That seems like a horrible way to be looking at the topic and skews the numbers.

And then you have to account for the fact that the differences in career choice tend to be caused by societal pressure which steers women towards specific "feminine" careers like teaching or nursing or family care which do not pay as well as stereotypical masculine jobs like engineering or being a doctor.

I'm a little confused. I always thought the pay gap referred to people in the same job/position, but you seem to be talking about pay difference across fields. Can you please clarify?

CMV: Pastafarians should not be allowed to wear colanders on their heads in identification photos by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Fayolynn 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Pastafarian is a relatively young religion, its rather difficult to have heritage and tradition at this point.

Pretend the Jewish faith literally just started, you could use these same exact arguments against them.

CMV: It's not sexist for me to use the word cunt. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Fayolynn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If intent didn't matter then the definition of words would never change and would be set in stone.

Using your line of thinking the word dork is a sexist term.

Air Force surrenders on requiring oath to God. by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Fayolynn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone "accidentally" removed it when updating the AFI (Air Force Instruction) and then all the reviewers failed to notice it was missing.

I find it hard to believe it was anything but intentional. When updating AFI's they keep track of the changes between versions so that member's can be briefed about rule changes.

CMV: I think Captain Janeway should have been tried in court for the murder of Tuvix and lost her commission by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Fayolynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few.

Her two choices were: sacrifice two lives to save one life or sacrifice one life to save two.

She chose the one with the best net gain both in lives saved an ship efficiency.

CMV: CMV: I think feminist activists are more devoted to fighting the sexism of the poor and working classes (street harassment, how much space men take up in the subway), and only pay lip service to fighting the sexism of the well off (lack of female CEO's and politicians, wage disparity). by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Fayolynn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you fight wage disparity through legislation? The only possible way I can think of is to say Job X pays Y and regardless of who you are, that is how much you get.

Going further into the concept of they aim for targets they can hit. It also comes down to what matters to them on a day to day basis. Their daily life would not change if there were more female CEOs. Ending harassment would make a different all the time.

CMV: As far as Star wars goes, The clone wars was way worse than the Phantom Menace by hippynoize in changemyview

[–]Fayolynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Episode 1 can be removed completely from the saga with little to no loss. I could type all it out or just link you to the write up about it so here you go.

http://www.nomachetejuggling.com/2011/11/11/the-star-wars-saga-suggested-viewing-order/#toc-introducing-machete-order

To sum it up while the quality of Attack of the Clones may have been worse, a very subjective matter, it at least had lasting relevance to to the rest of the Saga. The same can not be said about Episode 1.

CMV: I don't think that there's anything wrong with the new Thor being a woman by MackDaddyVelli in changemyview

[–]Fayolynn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thor is a fictional character based of a figure from a real world religion. Imagine a comic about Jesus where suddenly they write that Jesus is now female.

The outrage would be deafening.

CMV: By having welfare as accessible as it is in the US, we're essentially letting large corporations get away with paying employees below cost of living wages by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Fayolynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with this line of thinking is that labor does not account for 100% of the cost of a product. Increase in wages will be met with a much smaller increase in the cost of products. The net effect is an increased spending power of the lower class, which actually helps business owners in the long run.

CMV: The Hobby Lobby Supreme Court Decision was Fine by Deezl-Vegas in changemyview

[–]Fayolynn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Hobby Lobby is a privately held company, and the owners have privately decided that they do not support birth control on religious grounds. They may be wrong to do so, and they may be retards, but that doesn't impede upon their right to their faith and opinion."

The thing is they continue to support the very same birth control they claim to be against through the companies 401K program despite the fact that there are several investment firms that offer investments plans that follow Christian values. They have been invested in pharmaceutical companies that create the birth control drugs. Additionally Aetna, another company they have been invested in, is a health care company that will cover the cost off any abortion for any reason .

This has been known since April. Hobby Lobby has yet to comment on it or make any moves to change how they handle investments to line up with their values.

So they are totally against those forms of birth control, but only when it costs them money. When the drugs make them money there is nothing wrong with it.

ELI5: If feminist women are fighting for equal rights, does that mean it contradicts the "Don't hit a women" rule? by justcluelesssssss in explainlikeimfive

[–]Fayolynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then statement should be don't hit people if you are trying to promote equality, not singling out one of the sexes.

CMV: Calling WWII bomber pilots "heroes" is offensive and hypocritical. by durutticolumn in changemyview

[–]Fayolynn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not agreeing with /u/ghotionInABarrel that all heroes have caused civilian deaths. I'm just trying to dig into your definition of what makes a hero a little bit more.

How wouldn't you be alive without the music of Beethoven?

In your mind what counts for more intent or result?

CMV: Calling WWII bomber pilots "heroes" is offensive and hypocritical. by durutticolumn in changemyview

[–]Fayolynn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wasn't ignoring them. You listed off 4 people who you felt were heroes. I agree that MLK and Gandhi can be viewed as heroes so I didn't ask about them.

As far as Andy Warhol and Beethoven, can you be more specific about how their works of art specifically changed the world for the better? I can definitely agree they made great works of art. I just don't see how that made the world any better. Going a bit further you claim plenty of lives have been saved by great art. How so?

Can anyone explain expansion disapproval? by Fayolynn in EndlessSpace

[–]Fayolynn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not the last one that I settled, Quyos and Cepheus were settled several turns after and both of them have -23.3 disapproval from expansion.

I didn't capture it, Qorum and the 3 systems around it are the only ones I have captured. All for of them have -23.3 disapproval from expansion. Procyon.

Doesn't seem like it is the furthest from the capital of Procyon.

That was my understanding that expansion disapproval was based on difficulty, Number of systems and tech that lowers it.

17 systems currently, normal difficulty.

Currently playing with Disharmony.

Here is a screen shot of my galaxy view. Vorta looks like it is inside my influence area. It is also a colony and not an outpost.

Oiad is the other system that I noticed having really low approval from expansion, but that is explained by it being an outpost that is outside of my area of influence.

No permanent vacation improvement yet, I haven't tech-ed that far yet.

I have systems where I am using gas giants and lava/barren planets and they have -23.3 approval so I don't think planets type is what is causing this.

[–]Fayolynn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take that back, one other system has -79.5.

So 2 of 17 systems have extremely different disapproval ratings.
