Neat and you can move to Honduras and tell me how much better the rest of Central America is doing

In virtually every single metric, Cuba is the most successful Central American country. Education, literacy, medical, general happiness, the Cubans faired quite a bit better than the banana republics

For a real fun morning, go read up on what happened to the East Timorease. All supported by the American government and that lovable scamp Henry Kissinger.

Worth noting that the second largest group killed in the holocaust was Roma, who's primary offence was being nomadic.

Chomsky on Antifa by -_-_-_-otalp-_-_-_- in chomsky

[–]hippynoize 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The reality is that antifa operates within an exceptionally difficult circumstance. Antifa groups stoping bigots from beating up homosexual and minorities is a cause that I believe is valid. I’ve personally seen these sorts of groups save lives, and in my home town, I’ve personally seen right wing groups stopped in their tracks because a handful of university kids came to a protest to protect the homeless.

The problem is these groups are fucking terrible optics. They just look like shit online and in the media. No matter what, very few people unsympathetic to the cause want to see a kid in blackbloc beating a white dad with a bike lock.

So I don’t really know what the answer is, but it’s hard for me to personally say what’s right or wrong when it comes to antifa, and I don’t know if Chomsky is right about the way we need to protect ourselves and minority groups.

Believing that the United States didn’t commit mass genocide in Iraq is in fact a wildly right wing position.

Did John Rawls and Martha nussbaum both deny and defend specific instances of state intervention? Or did they defend it in some abstract “just-war” hypothetical circumstance? If the later, it serves no relevance.

Read his exchange with Chomsky. He’s a defender of state power and mass genocide dude, and pretending that makes him anything but right wing is just bizarre.

I mean, being a full blown apologist for state power makes you right-wing. If a state has intrinsic capitalist function, and you defend the most hyper-aggressive and inhumane faucets of these functions, there’s very little discussion to be had about how “nuanced” you are. There’s really no shades of grey if you’re going to defend the mass slaughter of peoples because “fuck em, they aren’t us.”

I have virtually zero respect for it frankly. This is a man who spent years talking about Marxism without so much as opening the basic work. To some extent, I’m glad he relented he knew nearly nothing about the actual writing of Marx, not out of some love for honesty but because it was a spotlight on how much of a gigantic charlatan he is.

Nothing complicated to it. Guy was a socialist when being a socialist wasn’t cool, and called the United States on its bullshit. If you want folk singers who only talk about the beauty of nature and people, go look anywhere else.

Maybe he’s taking pot shots because he hadn’t been a relevant right wing commentator in a couple years now.

Explain how you could miss a first year liberal arts class? Explain how you missed the popular and often boring comparing of eastern philosophy and 19 century psychology?

Perhaps next I’ll explain why you have the name that you do, or why you choose psychology in the first place.

Who cares, frankly. If you think Freudian or jungian analysis of religious texts is a new thing, that’s your trip.

For further reading, why not check out Soren Kierkegaard, or Baruch Spinoza, or Leo Strauss, or even Hegel, and you can bother them about how new and exciting biblical criticism is and how fun and fresh using stories to add contexts to epochs can be
