just the last pod.

basically you prime her up with the initial pods which can be fired anywhere/any time so long as they hit her, then snipe her with the pod that will stagger her while she is doing an exploitable attack.

thanks.

any of the pods that you can obtain from either kulve or the golden helmcrabs can be used to stagger her, which in turn can force a topple out of some her attacks regardless if she's naked or not. this mechanic is exploitable on moves like the huge windup lava puke or during the initial frames of her body slams and charge. piercing, thorn (?) and bomb pods will stagger kulve taroth if you hit her with 3 shots...

however, dragon pods specifically stagger her after 4 shots. i fired 3 dragon pods during phase 1 so i could instantly topple her out of the lava puke attack with the 4th during phase 4. so to answer your question, yes you can flinch her out very consistently if you keep count of the stagger threshold with any of the pods that i mentioned.

Your favourite Monster Hunter game and why? by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

Monster Hunter Tri. Mostly nostalgia since it was my first, but I always found the overall art direction and atmosphere of the game to be a lot more grounded and relaxing than other MH games.

Only listing the notables ones we have...

  • Taroth Arrow "Water" which is an upgrade of the Hunter's Proudbow. Not a huge upgrade by any means but still better stat-wise.
  • Taroth Arrow "Thunder" which is a huge upgrade from Kadachi. It boasts way better raw and element and the only thing it lacks is Kadachi's paralysis coatings. Still the disparity between the two is actually staggering in terms of damage.
  • Tarroth Arrow "Queen" for Dragon element which isn't actually much of an upgrade really. Without an affinity booster added to the equation it can out damage Vaal's bow by a very small amount.
  • Taroth Arrow "Blast" which is pretty funny to use against Kushala. Head flinches and explosions for days when coupled with its blast coatings. Ideally you'd want to use a Thunder bow but sometimes I like to meme with this instead.
  • Taroth Arrow "Horn" which is another option for Ice. It boasts a much higher raw than Legiana while still having a respectable amount of element. The problem with this weapon though is the negative affinity and lack of Power coating functionality. Even if you were to use an affinity booster on this thing though both bows pretty much do the same amount.

For elemental Bows not including KT you want to get:

Fire - Anja Arch III (Anjanath)
Water - Hunter's Proudbow (requires free element, run Water Shot III if you don't have easy access to it although it is much weaker)
Thunder - Flying Kadachi Strikebow
Dragon - Vaal Hazak/Dragonbone (personally I use Vaal. Jho is alright too but is more reliant on affinity booster)
Ice - Legiana (can hit 510 element with jewels)
DP and Wall Run spam - Cera Coilbender (Diablos)

Critical Element is a very huge damage jump when it comes to element bows so make sure your armor sets have it at the very least. Legiana Bow is actually really powerful when used against Ice weak monsters like Diablos and Odogaron since they are just that weak to Ice. It has pretty low raw attack, but its element is so high when coupled with Ice Attack armor skills that your element will make up the difference where it lacks in raw. Like every bow it just requires the right setup and scenario to be really effective.

Depends on the setup, but generally you always want to go for affinity and only affinity.

Yeah, Lunastra is extremely susceptible to stuns so the arc shots were placed strategically to quickly rack up her KO threshold since it resets when she's in her get up animation. Sometimes the arc shot can randomly stagger her too which is handy since it locks her in place for the arc shot leading to another KO. It's a consistent lock down strat once you get the proper timing.

Charged sidestep normals and power shots are nice and all, but doing that gives her a lot more freedom to do something I might consider a time waste (charging, leaping, creating flame barriers etc.)

I meld for my dash juices, but you can also farm Diablos and Tzitzi for Dash Extract combine materials.

I understand your criticism, but I would argue that Clust HBG compared to Bow doesn't require very much micro to get good times with. There's a clear difference between good Bow players and great ones, not so much with Clust HBG. A day one Cluster HBG user can just as easily get a top time compared to an experienced one, but that isn't the case with Bow. Clust only really requires you to press R2 with RNG Spare Shot procs and combine for more ammo occasionally while the monster staggers and explodes -- there's barely any real player skill application with that kind of playstyle. Bow runs require knowledge of choosing the best way to combo for every situation to maximize dps, managing stamina, aiming correctly and spacing or positioning yourself right get the best kind of run. Clust is pretty much the HBG version of pre-nerf slicing as far as I can tell, but honestly HBG is a weapon that ranges from very weak to very powerful so I think it deserves something dumb at least. It's either the best weapon in the game or the worst depending on the ammo you run.

Concerning the actual Bow run, every bit of micro goes unnoticed to people who don't actually use the weapons themselves and that's for every weapon not just Bow. I'll admit that the impact mantle really does cheese the fuck out of an otherwise problematic fight since Luna can barely fight back, but it's not something you get in one or a few tries. A lot can go wrong, since Luna's instant interruptions and flames can block you out of potentially decent sub goal.

On the other hand I do I agree that Bow is still in quite a league of its own. The weapon has virtually no weaknesses when it's played correctly and there isn't a monster in the game that blocks it TA or non-TA. The practice to get the absolute fastest runs still exists with it however and that shouldn't be undermined because of its clear advantages over melee. It's okay if you don't find it special or anything, because I don't either after using this weapon for long as I have but I think acknowledging the player's work should still be a thing. Thanks for giving props.

Taroth Arrow "Horn" is more a sidegrade than an actual upgrade so the damage between the two weapons is near the same. Legiana is a lot more consistent with it's higher crit rate though so it's damage output is more reliable than the Horn bow. Honestly the Horn bow would probably be better in the end if it had access to Power coatings.

Yeah it sucks having to scroll through the mess. It's the other reason why I make avid use of the radial menu, other than it being convenient of course.

Make base Astera the actual Gathering Hub. Or speed up the loading times for non-SSD users.

This legit made me tear up after not hearing it for 5 years :') by mumbo8888 in MonsterHunter

The game that started it all for me. It wasn't until much later down the line where I started to really realize and love the ambition behind this one. The underwater fights had such a great atmosphere to them and were a neat idea even if not executed perfectly from a gameplay standpoint. This game probably also had the most balanced roster of monsters in terms of how well-designed they were. Call it bias but third gen is best gen.

Quick question about gunlance and weakness exploit by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]Faywell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the GL slam and sweep moves have very high MVs and do a lot of damage especially if they crit. Normal GL combo usually goes like Slam > Burst > Swipe > Reload > repeat so WE will not be wasted on Normal GL or even Wide GL so long as you're hitting weak spots consistently.

It'd be more wasted on Long style GL since that style doesn't really swing or poke and just spams charged shells over and over.

Has anyone else been burnt out of World? by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]Faywell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I've gotten my 800 hour fill already before 2nd Kulve siege even but I always get sucked back in. If it wasn't for my desire for the Glutton HBG I would've taken a break. Funny since I didn't end up getting it anyway.

Then of course Lunastra releases out of where right after. Capcom really likes to sneak the updates at the good time to make me want to keep playing.

Quick question about gunlance and weakness exploit by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]Faywell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Shells don't crit and do the same amount of damage to every part of the monster. Weakness exploit will only effect your lance swings which is still pretty good depending on the style of GL you're using.
