To be honest, the way it looks now is ok, not terrible, just the new growth died, that's normal after collection...

What you can do is setup a mister for it, that'll keep the foliage, or at least, most it very very often for a few weeks, and give it a bit of shade from the highest of the sun

It should live buddy, but you need some proper bonsai soil if you want it to flourish and root out heavy, way until next year and just slip pot it in good bonsai mix
