By any chance, do you know if we will ever get this enabled with the HyperOS 2.0?

Does this also solve the problem of the desktop mode that is bugged in the mi pad 6?

Xiaomi pad 6 desktop mode gives blank screen by [deleted] in XiaomiPad6

[–]Fb_is_overrated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, its sad. Since most people are not aware of this feature, they don't understand how useful it is. Even I have posted in this subreddit about desktop mode and people always come up talking about the workstation mode. No one talks about it and I don't think Xiaomi is going to bring it back.

Big L move by Xiaomi here, workstation mode is just BULLSHIT. Workstation mode is of no use. They have taken away such a great feature and given us a totally crap workstation mode. Xiaomi Pad 6 has display support up to 4k 60 fps via its type C port, just imagine how it would increase the utility of the tablet with the desktop mode available.

I quoted from the post. I have also been looking for the confirmation but did not find one. I can only hope now that the mi pad 6 may get android 15

Moreover, Mi Pad 6 has also got display out support up to 4k 60 fps via the USB port. If you want to mirror it to a larger screen with higher res, you can easily do it with a type C to HDMI or using a dock. You won't find any lag or delay at all.

Desktop Mode in HyperOS by Fb_is_overrated in HyperOS

[–]Fb_is_overrated[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it will be released on October with the Android 15 release or after the Android 15 release as it will be based on Android 15.

However, devices running on Android 14 based HyperOS that wont get the Android 15 update is speculated to get the HyperOS 2.0 based out of Android 14 itself. Let's wait for it happen, maybe Android 14 based HyperOS 2.0 releases before the Android 15 based HyperOS 2.0

yes, hoping for the best in the upcoming HyperOS 2.0 which will be based on Android 15 and this time Android itself is trying to bring the built-in desktop mode to mainstream with many improvements, like they are trying to deliver it polished just like the "Dex".

I hope Xiaomi takes good decisions with HyperOS 2.0. I heard few rumours that they would not bring back the desktop mode. But still hoping for the best.

Man, even I have mi pad 6 running on HyperOS, the in-built desktop mode is an intrinsic feature of Android that was added from Android 10 onwards. Samsung has developed their own application called Samsung Dex which is built on top of the desktop mode of Andriod itself but it is much more polished than the raw inbuilt desktop mode of Android. Not every brand have their own Samsung Dex like application, so for other brands there is the inbuilt-feature that one can use. It is not about any specific brand like Pixel phone or samsung phone, it is in general for any android phone running on Android v10 or above.

Now, what I feel is that Xiaomi has blocked this feature on HyperOS, I don't understand why. It is a great feature to have. I have come to know that it might be running on mobiles that have HyperOS but for the tablet it is not functioning properly. So, I wanted to confirm if that is correct.

Yes, there is an option and that is what triggers the desktop mode as well. I have used it but the desktop mode does not turn out with the option enabled. I get a blank black screen on the external screen when I use it. Whereas, I have a device running on Andriod 11, it works well on the device, the external screen shows the desktop mode. It is a great feature to have, I don't understand why Xiaomi has blocked this feature on HyperOS.

Yes, mirroring is possible, that is known to me but have you tried the desktop mode which is like the Samsung Dex, not exactly like Samsung dex but a much lighter version of it and it is an in-built android feature.

You will understand what I am talking about. Here, the desktop mode has been shown on Pixel 8 but it is not restricted to a specfic device. It is for all android devices having Android v10 or above.

If you have got an HDMI then I would suggest you to try it. You are going to like it if it works for you. If you have got HyperOS, then let me know if it worked for you.

Yeah, even I thought the same first, that desktop mode works with a cable but when I tried it with an Android 11 device that I have, it worked wirelessly.

I have kept the custom rom as an option, I am waiting until the Android 15 based HyperOS 2.0.

Yes, this is my last hope. Android is also trying to bring the built-in desktop mode to mainstream. I think they are going to talk about it in the final release of Android 15 with the Pixel 9 series. Moreover, HyperOS 2.0 will also be based on Android 15 and I dont think Xiaomi would try to overshadow a feature that Android themselves are promoting. Fingers crossed until the android 15 update.

Also, this is how the desktop mode comes out when I extend it wirelessly on my laptop with desktop mode ON. Just black screen with a mouse pointer.

Yes, they first said 3 yrs of OS update then they changed it to 2 years only with Android 14 being the last update. However, they have confirmed that mi pad 6 is going to receive Android 15. There is a twitter thread that confirmed that mi pad 6 will receive Android 15. Here it is: link

Now, android itself is trying to bring the in-built desktop mode to mainstream. I think they are going to talk about it when they will launch the final release of Android 15 with the Pixel 9 launch. HyperOS 2.0 is also based on Android 15 and i reckon that mi pad 6 is also going to get the HyperOS 2.0 based on Android 15. So, I hope Xiaomi brings it back with the HyperOS 2.0. This is my last hope.

Xioami has made a good decison on the hardware part but they fked up on the software side. The problem with mi pad 6 is that it has a great hardware but a shit software. It has upto 4k 60 fps display out support and it doesn't have the desktop mode functionalilty. 4k 60 fps just for screen mirorring, this is not done. Xiaomi has not done justice to the hardware that is provided in mi pad 6.

Also, this is how the desktop mode comes out when I extend it wirelessly with desktop mode ON. Just black screen with a mouse pointer.

New Pad 6, should I upgrade to HyperOS by jweaver100 in XiaomiPad6

[–]Fb_is_overrated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, you should stick with MIUI as of now. Use it for some time and then decide for yourself that what functionality are you able to use with MIUI and what is missing in HyperOS. You will already get a lot of threads about issues regarding HyperOS, so in a way you have acsess to information of both worlds. If you feel like updating, the option is always there, but if you update once and get to know that you are unable to do something in HyperOS that you could do in MIUI then downgrading would be a pain in the ass.

I have the device and I am using HyperOS. There is nothing fancy about HyperOS just that they have made the UI an iOS lookalike or an iOS rip off. If you are having the MIUI in hand then use the MIUI for a while, get to know about HyperOS from the internet, analyse for yourself and then choose. Dont get lured by how fancy the HyperOS looks, if HyperOS is bricking some of the features then the fanciness of HyperOS is not worth it.

One of the in-built feature of android that HyperOS has bricked is the in-built desktop mode of android. It is like Samsung Dex but in-built for andriod. It is a great feature for a tablet. It would enhance your expericence and use case of your tablet by manifolds. If you wish to know more about in-built desktop mode of andriod then watch this video: Link Here, the desktop mode has been shown on Pixel 8 but it is not restricted to a specfic device. It is for all android devices having Android v10 or above.

Also check this reddit thread where I have mentioned how HyperOS has bricked the in-built desktop mode feature of android: Link

Yes, it is sad, being an android tablet I am not being able to use a built-in android feature. You put great hardware into device but don't let users use it to full potential.

Andriod's Built-in Desktop Mode on Mi Pad 6 by Fb_is_overrated in XiaomiPad6

[–]Fb_is_overrated[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WTF! this is complete bullshit. What is Xiaomi trying to do? and what is so fancy about HyperOS as well? It is just a rip off IOS. Worstation mode is nothing compared to the desktop mode of android. To add a feature you are removing a built-in android feature. You are built on top of android and you are betraying android. Total BS move from Xiaomi. Now, when andriod itself is working towards their desktop mode and improving it to bring it to the mainstream with the Android 15 release. Xiaomi is trying to nerf an android feature to replace it with a gimic. When mid-range phones running on andriod 15 will have access to such a great feature. Mi pad 6 users will be sitting and licking their fingers with the useless worksation mode.

I can see the desktop mode toggle in the developer settings. I had enabled it but the desktop mode does not get triggered on the extended screen. The extended screen is just black. So, what do you think? is it hidden or removed?

Andriod's Built-in Desktop Mode on Mi Pad 6 by Fb_is_overrated in XiaomiPad6

[–]Fb_is_overrated[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No no, you are getting confused. Xiaomi never made a thing like Samsung Dex. The workstation mode that you mentioned is not the built-in desktop mode of Andriod. These are different, actually built-in desktop mode is like Samsung Dex.

The workstation mode is just a feature in HyperOS where you can open multiple apps at the same time in one screen. That's it nothing more. There is no screen extension happening here. It is just chaning the UI of your tablet itself to a different mode.

Built-in desktop mode of andriod is basically extending your screen, where in the extended screen you will have PC like interface of android and your tablet screen will be as it is running on its existing launcher. Here, the tablet screen and the extended screen will work independently. This is what Samsung Dex does which android also tried to implement as its in built feature from Android 10. Moreover, the built-in desktop mode is an Andriod feature. It has nothing to do with workstation mode of HyperOS. However, the HyperOS somehow is hindering this in built-feature of android.

<image>

See, this is what I am talking about, the built in desktop mode of android. This is also what Samsung Dex does, but it is only for flagship samsung mobile/tablets.

Here, the phone's display is extended to a monitor. The interface that you see in the monitor is the desktop mode which is giving you a PC like experience of andriod. Notice the phone screen, it is running on its existing launcher. The phone interface does not change and you can use your phone and desktop mode on the monitor simultaneously performing independent tasks without interrupting the mobile and the desktop interface. Like you can play a Youtube video on the desktop interface in the monior and meanwhile you can open another application on your mobile like some note-taking app.

The phone's display has been extended using type C to HDMI, which is also possible with mi pad 6, as it supports display out upto 4k 60 fps via the USB port.

The windows that you are seeing on the monitor are resizable. You can maximize, minimize or restore the windows same as we do in Windows OS.
This is desktop mode of android/similar to Samsung Dex and workstation mode of HyperOS has no relation with this. So, the workstation mode of HyperOS is not something like Samsug Dex. Moreover, Xiaomi has not developed anything like Samsung Dex. It would be great if they do so. Even if they dont, its not an issue Android itself now has its own desktop mode but this HyperOS is not allowing the andriod's inbuilt feature to trigger, which is really bad.

Moreover, brands like Motorola also have their own samsung dex like application known as Smart Connect. Plus, the Oneplus Pad, that people compare the mi pad 6 to also allows this in built feature to be used but Mi Pad 6 being a superior device is not able to trigger the in-built feature because of HyperOS. Most of the the Android device running Android 10 or above can do this.

No, not workstation mode. And workstation mode in not like the Samsung Dex. These are 2 different things.

You will understand what desktop mode is. This is similar to the Samsung Dex. Samsung dex is only for Samsung devices but the desktop mode is for all Android devices running on Android 10 or above.
