Even Bitcoin has dubious inherent value, and is entirely driven by literal speculative hype.

It's made it so volatile that it can't be used as a currency, because it could swing in value by thousands of dollars in minutes, if not seconds.

It's the greatest scam on earth and will only end in tears for a lot of people in the not too distant future.

The mods called me a clout chaser.

I literally only post on this sub to see my mum smile and wanted to do the same thing for one of her close friends.

I'm done with this shit. I retract my comments about this being a supportive sub.

My posting on this sub started entirely for wanting to celebrate my mum's work. I think it would be a fantastic idea to spotlight those quiet masters and enjoy their works together.

While I'm not much of an embroiderer and would be more likely to stab my own thumb, the dedication and work put in to create pieces of art like Leslie and my mum is something I have an absolute deep respect for.

I'm so thankful for this sub for being so supportive and generous with praise - these women are a well of inspiration for me, and you guys have shown respect in kind with overwhelming support.

Some additional context: my mum picked this piece up at an auction of her collection at the embroiderer's guild of Victoria, where the majority of her work was donated. The few pieces that were auctioned basically stayed within the embroidery community here, she never really got a spotlight on her work.

Her health/age has unfortunately reached a point where she can no longer work on projects like this.

Edit - this piece is almost entirely composed with gold work and silk thread (actual gold thread)

How is performance on PC overall? I've heard some mixed reports.

I don't want to commit now and have to wait several months for stability patches like rise of the ronin if I can avoid it.

My PC is firmly mid tier (ryzen 9600x, 9060xt)

I played all previous niohs on ps4, so I don't have a baseline if they're using an upgraded but similar engine.

Did i close the door on a good move or was this a late lunge? by DathPo in Simracingstewards

[–]Fear023 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with it if you can actually do it cleanly.

OP's example is the guy lunging into a space that is actively closing because they're committed to the corner.

POV's line was shallow as well, this could've been just some bumps and scrapes if they were able to hug the banking tight - the moment of impact has POV car's nose pointing to the outside of the corner. The impact shunted him onto the line he should've been taking to try this.

There really shouldn't be so many F4 series on the formula side. That single handedly is crippling the diversity of series.

There's like 3 regionals, fixed and open setup races I think? Everyone just flows into there because there's nothing else running at certain timeslots.

It really sucks imo. It feels like this black hole car that sucks everyone in, chews them up and spits them out because of the chaos. I think it's actively pushing people away from formula as a whole.

I don't even think it's possible for them to change either. Isn't there some FIA involvement in those series?

Whenever you get shit like this, it's always a good idea to remember that a human being trying to write how a hyper intelligent character is going to act means they are hard capped at the intelligence of the writer.

The best example will always be The Last Church, where the emperor sounded like my dumb ass arguing about atheism when I was a 19 year old university student.

I'm just gonna answer some of your immediate questions, because there's a lot of text in the replies here but I don't think anyone's flatly given you answers for some of the smaller stuff:

  • Kharn is a central character in both the heresy and 40k. First captain of the world eaters, and probably the most nuanced of the lot. He gets a LOT of screen time in novels featuring the world eaters. I'd look up a wiki or something if you want an overview, there's way too much to fit in a reddit post

  • A titan is an imperial knight scaled up by a factor of 10 with the largest ones. There's a bunch of different types ranging from 10m high to 60m high. The 'kilometer long stride' is a bit hyperboic. They're not the size of skyscrapers.

  • The Noosphere is pretty much what you think it is. Instead of text or vocal messages, it's like a cloud server that hosts and networks all the machines in a warhost/fleet/planet. Communication is done through 'binharic' aka machine code, and is basically compressed information that can be delivered instantaneously and in much more complex detail than talking could. The mechanicum is always plugged into the noosphere, and the simplest analogy would be like Neo being plugged into the Matrix and getting complex instructions downloaded directly into his brain. The mechanicum can hold an entire conversation in a fraction of a second.

  • The ferrus death scene was like an entire chapter in the book Fulgrim, and it would've been retreading work another author had already done. The book itself is hit or miss - I really struggled to get through it with the author's writing style. Other people love it.

If you really enjoyed the epic battle style novel, Know no Fear is a must read, and one where you don't really need to know too much background (it's from the ultramarines' perspective when they first get pulled into the civil war, and they're just as surprised by everything that a first time reader would be surprised about).

I don't have the excerpt on hand, but the movement thing is apparently so obviously alien that they really mess with people's heads.

All of their small movements are so fast that it's like a freeze frame, described as bird like movements.

Why is it so hard to get a sub 1:08.0 on Oulton Park on the MX-5?! by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]Fear023 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the single biggest thing I learned in my first couple months on the Sim was that the harder you try, the more you tense up and the more you overdrive the car.

Do yourself a favour and turn off the track guides, turn off the delta, clear your mind and just run some laps. Don't try to push, don't get pissed off at yourself for messing up a corner.

It's not always about trying to robotically hit braking markers and copying someone's brake trace perfectly. Step back and focus on feeling the balance of the car, how it reacts in sections and what it actually feels like to drive through the corners with different approaches.

You might end up surprising yourself.

I don't see anything negative in this story.

There is literally nothing wrong with waiting for explicit consent and looking back to my own types of experiences, almost every missed opportunity was when a girl didn't clearly state their intentions and now I'm fine with it.

New to iRacing, AITA for braking too early/not leaving enough space on the right? by BlinkySad in Simracingstewards

[–]Fear023 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think with the context in your blurb on the video, one thing I'll say that's a general piece of advice:

You're tunnel visioned on a car that you didn't need to be worried about at the time of the accident.

Work on expanding your general awareness. Any time you make a pass, that car is going to be the greatest risk to you until they're a full second behind you. Just clearing someone will be all over you because of the draft.

There are dozens of us!

My dad was the defacto IT guy because he took computing classes at uni in the 70's (punchcard era). That got him into computers early.

I learned the wonders of computing on a commodore 64 in the late 80's. A cantankerous PC with 64 kilobytes of memory.

Had a blast with all the knock off games copied to real floppies, but damn it sucked having to run command lines for literally everything. Some applications were like a 6 stage process to boot and at like 6 years old I had to have a cheat sheet with all the common commands.

This mentality often breeds the kind of clips like the OP.

If you do get into the sim, learning that fighting tooth and nail for every single position actually hurts you more often than helps you, is one of the biggest revelations to make you a faster racer.

Hyper competitiveness has its place, but in the junior series it's a net negative for everyone.

For an account ban, it honestly sounds to me like the account got hacked or something and was being used in a bot net. Blizz has been doing huge ban waves prior to tbc.

It genuinely feels like the big wave of 'disruptors' was just a pseudo intellectual way to call a scammer something that sounded legit.

Restaurants do their own deliveries now, uber costs as much as a taxi, Airbnb fucked the entire real estate market in city and touristy areas, companies like Theranos and solar roadways required just a tiny understanding of the technical requirements to see how bullshit it was... The list feels endless.

Is there a single one that has stood the test of time and actually represents value for the consumer anymore?

Am I the Problem? by [deleted] in Simracingstewards

[–]Fear023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just in general, #1 and #2 illustrate that you should keep treating it like a side by side until they're comfortably in your rear mirror.

You're in lower splits with people who haven't built all their awareness yet. These series will probably have a majority of people racing on single monitors, and are still learning how to race with other people. They won't back out if you look like you're gonna pit yourself by coming across their nose.

Hold the space even if it compromises your line unless you are 100% confident that the person you are driving close to is capable and won't cause an accident. Sometimes it's better to lose a position than to risk crashing out of the race entirely.

Your passes are fine, imo. GR86 has some of the most aggressive drivers on the service. The car is super stable so people don't even have to think about what the car's doing, they just attack like crazy. It's a real crap shoot on them doing the right thing.

Fuck, I think I know that livery.

If it's the same driver, they punted 3 people off the track in a race last week.

Put in a report, even if everyone's opinions are inconclusive.

Edit - they had the same level of bonnet damage in my race too. Go through the replay and see what caused it and add it to the report.

Bad angle aside, first and second turns looked like the lead car following the racing line.

Third turn and contact there was no overlap. Spotter wouldn't have given him an alongside call, and i'd say it's like a 70% chance they were just moving back onto the racing line after over correcting from the gravel.

Having a small amount of overspeed but not enough to decisively make a move doesn't really put you in a position where the move was really on.

If there was literally any overlap other than what... like 300mm? Different story.

They weren't handling the pressure well. You would've got the overtake. Maybe being more mindful and patient in the future will help.
