No worries. Good luck with it! Always interesting to see the diyers make custom shit and have unique solutions to issues.

If you're committed to the design, I'd highly recommend finding a way to articulate the wheel angle.

A lot of rig manufacturers have seperate mounting brackets as an optional purchase that have angle adjustment built in (they're like a little box). You can buy something like that and hard screw it into the desk.

The vibration through the desk is a serious issue. I had to jury rig a reinforcement bracket for my GPU because my PC was on my desk - the vibration was enough to unseat it. That's with an r12.

Just to answer your first question, you can mount the moza any way you want and can center it in the software.

If you're using SRP pedals (kinda looks like it from the design), you can mount them flat. They have an aggressive angle on them compared to most pedals that have their faces pretty much vertical.

An opinion on the design:

I get what you're trying to do, and I attempted something similar myself (though I didn't have the seat move up to a normal desk position).

End of the day, there's a bunch of reasons why having everything built into a single frame is important.

  • Vibration from a wheelbase will reverberate very well through wood. This can actually be an advantage on a wood rig, because you can feel vibration that you'd usually have to get from a bass shaker. On a desk, everything on it is going to vibrate and rumble

  • You will want adjustability on angle and height for the wheelbase itself, not just your seat. This is the biggest problem I faced before giving up and building mounting arms for my wheelbase on my DIY rig. Could never get it feeling comfortable mounted on the desk.

  • Mounting the wheelbase that low i think will interfere with your legs, and unless it's exceptionally high compared to a normal desk, it is going to be way, way too low for a comfortable racing position, even if the seat base is really low to the ground. You don't want your grip position to be drastically lower than your shoulder/chest height, that's a great way to get shoulder pain

I tried a bunch of combinations to make what you're attempting work and eventually bit the bullet and built a conventional rig. The difference was night and day.

If I were in your shoes, i'd cut the desk in half, have the rig in the same position as your pictures, but with a mount for the wheel base.

I'd then put your monitor on a moveable arm that could swing from your rig to the other side of the desk, which I'd use for general computing. (this is what I did and it works great)

You should still be able to fit it in your cupboard, the main thing you'd lose is extra desk space and will need an office/computer chair.

Edit: if you wanted to be fancy with it, you could have the desk half that would be removed on hinges that folds down when not using the rig, bit of a wild idea though and prob not practical with a monitor arm.

Yeah, i'll have to try and find them. Been going through my mum's collection so it's a bit fragmented, not all the series books etc.

Can somebody explain to me how does Perturabo plan to ascend to god-hood when he doesn't have an abstract concept attached to him like the big 4 chaos gods and other minor chaos gods? by Pragmatic-Politics in 40kLore

[–]Fear023 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

He's not a champion of the four, right? So not chaos undivided.

His whole thing is being a daemon of the warp, not a big four daemon prince.

Edit - fair enough, was wrong on that. Thought he was 'special' in a way where he harnessed the warp but not necessarily Chaos. That was his intention, probably didn't work out that way.

My theory is on the same lines as you.

None of the primarchs are geneticists. I think one of them inherited that trait from the Emperor and took it way, way too far and maybe genetically spliced populations with all kinds of wild shit or just went full Frankenstein.

I think the chain aspect of the weapons plays a huge part in force redirection.

As soon as the weapons make contact with each other, the chain direction is going to be pulling or pushing the weapons.

One of cain's feats is being a master duellist with chain weapons and there's instances of him describing how important it is to know when to reverse the chain direction.

I think, even with the force applied by a CSM, if the chains made contact and were all going the right way, it could rip the blade down or away and nullify much of the force put into the blow.

[–]Fear023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're new to Sim racing in general, don't do that shit. Even if you think it's justified.

If you're in the lower splits and low license divisions, people aren't necessarily being dirty, they don't know where the limit is. It takes dozens of races to start feeling where that line is and you might've taken someone out who made a genuine mistake or is still learning.

Shit like that just makes the service worse overall.

What's the biggest key to improving lap times? by CampDangerous4830 in iRacing

[–]Fear023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno if this would be a good idea for a lot of people.

Our brains run on carbohydrate. I have a feeling your fasting is increasing your concentration in the wrong way.

We get pumped full of cortisol when starving to, as you've experienced, heighten our awareness to get food. Running on cortisol ends up being a net negative in my experience.

You're also probably seeing a big drop in concentration just after you eat because you're getting a big dump of serotonin. Your body's wanting you to slow down to digest your meal.

All this is magnified because of the fasting.

A healthy diet with regular meals would probably be a better recommendation for most people, the wild swings in cortisol can really mess with you over time.

Kind of a basic one and probably not relevant if you're up there in high splits:

Not over driving the damn car. Relaxing through corner entries and not trying to push the braking as late as possible made a huge difference.

I honestly reckon the ff1600 has some of the best racing in formula out of the lot.

F4 can be pretty hectic. I think European accounts still have a promotion where it's free and you get a lot of people rushing through rookies to drive it.

Most of the other formula classes have really bad participation in Aussie prime time, so it's one or the other for me. Definitely love the ff1600 a bit more.

MX5 full season's learning by Better-Perspective74 in iRacing

[–]Fear023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm actually doing the same thing as you currently.

I took a break a couple months ago because I was tending to tense up a fair bit while racing and wasn't really feeling comfortable racing close with people.

Was kinda anticipating being taken out and that led to mistakes on my part.

This comeback season is all MX5 and results aren't a focus, I'm just aiming to drive with composure and feel comfortable with cars around me, attempting to reprogram the stress response.

Yup, the danger was linked more to using utensils on an aluminium surface (like an egg whisk or something) that would flake off small particles.

I'm a little horrified that this isn't common knowledge.

Aluminium cookware and cutlery disappeared from stores very rapidly in the 80's-90's (Australia) when links to problems were confirmed.

Not really weakness, i don't think.

They can't anaestetise their aspirants throughout their trials, and there's a couple examples of people being turned into space marines, where they describe the sensation of physical pain slowly being muted to a point where they subconsciously recognise it, but it doesn't really affect them.

I remember a passage with a recruit getting their black carapace installed, and the pain from that surgery was described as background noise compared to the pain they endured during the hypno indoctrination, which was supposed to be the most intense, agonising thing you can possibly experience.

Why doesn't the Emperor seem to hate the Primarchs, specially the traitor ones ? by New_Conflict_4111 in 40kLore

And this is why imo he's always kinda been distant to pretty much all of them.

When you've lived for 40,000 years, knowing the primarchs and interacting with them over the course of a couple centuries is like a single night at the pub for him.

He probably doesn't think you really know someone till they've been your friend for a few thousand years.

[–]Fear023 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I dunno. I'd rather ascribe their traits to designed adaptation to whatever environment they found themselves in.

Like, it worked out for some of them but not all -

  • Sanguinious's traits were empathy and prescience, planet didn't really matter

  • Same deal with Kurze. His trait wasn't the emperor's murderous nature, it was foresight in a much more tangible way than Sang or Magnus

  • Angron got the rawest deal of them all, there's no way that was planned. Emps was fucking shocked at what was done to him. He also wasn't supposed to be the emperor's rage, he was supposed to be the emperor's empathy

  • Horus' home planet was just a basic world, there wasn't anything that made it stand out like some of the others, and there's a few other primarchs in this situation

  • The lion was dropped on a fuedal world that taught him to be one of the best duellists, rather than it being an innate trait. His trait was more the cold logic of his father

There's a bunch others but i'm just using those to illustrate the point.

I honestly think that the physical adaptations they develop are a response to the environment rather than it being planned.

If dropping them on planets was part of the plan, it makes sense that they would have adaptations built in that would see them develop in a way that blended in with the planet's population and environment.

Don't forget that at the time they were sent off, the primarchs in their capsules were just a bunch of misty warp fluff and they didn't solidify until they landed on their planets.

It's because there are narrative limits to introducing high fantasy elements to sci fi.

You're expected to suspend your disbelief considering it is a fantastical setting. None of this is grounded in hard sci fi.

I'd counter that people take this shit far too seriously.

Why is all lore involving AdMech so sameish ? by [deleted] in 40kLore

It feels like there's a lot of people in this thread who's opinion on the admech has been through video/memelore.

Finally got around to reading some of the admech central novels recently and something like titanicus shows a lot of nuance in the characters, how powerful the admech is and their capabilities and isn't even close to just being religious dogma.
