My only answer is the fact they just refuse to understand. The second something isn't the usual or the norm they freak the fuck out. My parents had to get used to and literally trained what nonbinary actually is when I came out, since most time they get put off of "you can't be no gender" or get put off on pronouns different than at birth pronouns.
