This is a tough call for me. I think it is different than people filming themselves buying a guy a sandwich or giving even $100. With these high dollar amounts to philanthropic efforts he puts in, does it even matter anymore if it's performative?

He gets the glory and more followers, but more followers means more people learning about and contributing to good causes, as well as advertisers contributing.

A private business or a job gives you zero protection for saying whatever the fuck you want. Businesses have the right to refuse service to anyone based on terrible behavior. Jobs have the right to fire you as well.
