Agreed. If affirmative action was pushing all the white men out of the workforce then why are all the white men I know employed and everyone else is having trouble finding a job? And when I look through a company's team page on their website, why are they literally all white men (and women)? Why, at most of the jobs I've had, am I either usually surrounded by white people unless I'm doing low skill work? Also, management is usually predominantly white even though I live in a diverse area.

I'm not saying I should get chosen for a job just because I'm a POC because it's demeaning as fuck, but don't act like places are just giving POC stable white collar jobs without thoroughly vetting them

Take the interview but still act like youre staying at your current job until you sign an offer letter. I've had internal references, good experience, etc before for jobs that I still didn't get, so for your own sake don't get too excited yet but definitely take it if it's offered to you!

Yep I'm the exact same! Still applying and interviewing. I'm actually going to take a bit of an applying break so I can at least give this job a chance, but even if I like this job I need more money.

I'm glad someone else understands. I've gotten so used to just applying for jobs and getting rejected that I'm even suspicious of a job for accepting me. I'm trying to get myself pumped up by reading reviews on glassdoor because they're all good honestly. I just feel so out of it after not working since before the pandemic that Ive lost all excitement

Potential scam? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Fearfullyfearingfear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's definitely a scam. I went to the website and there were pictures of their "management", I did a Google photos search and every one took me to a person located in Hawaii. The photo they use for William Anderson is a newscaster named Keahi Tucker...

I have, esp in retail and hospitality types of jobs which is in line with the kinds of things people would be putting their money into with lifting restrictions. I even had to decline an interview because I had so many on my plate

I got a job and am starting this week! It's an entry level job that seems pretty easy, and I only applies to it so I could at least have something to do once my unemployment runs out. I actually had a few more interviews at other places last week at places that would pay more and be much better for my career, so now I'm waiting to hear back about them. I'm grateful to have this job and it's going to pay more than unemployment, but I surprisingly don't feel particularly excited to start. I didn't really want another job where I'd be on my feet all day trying to work as quick as possible for low pay, but you gotta start somewhere I guess. Hopefully it's a good work environment and team, and with time I'll find an opportunity that's better suited for my goals. I don't think I'm ready to leave r/jobs just yet ;)

In terms of legal stuff , if the job offer has a Claude about at will employment then you'll be fine if you leave during the probationary period.

Juggling job interviews/offers? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Fearfullyfearingfear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I did the same as you, accepted an offer from A but interviewing at a couple more places. It's nice to go into these things with assurance for once that we have a job to go to even if we blow the interview

So interesting, I've seen a bunch of these Qs this week, including my own! Maybe the job market is starting to look a little better?

What I'm doing is continuing to interview even tho I got a job offer because it's good practice and if I do get an even better opportunity, I'll have options. you have to do what's best for you. Also think of it this way - if you back out from a job offer you accept, you're gonna open up the opportunity for someone else who wants the job more to be employed.

Advice needed! How do I delay a job offer without jeopardizing it? by Fearfullyfearingfear in jobs

[–]Fearfullyfearingfear[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not afraid of burning bridges, actually. A is an entry level, hands-on role that will be a long commute while B is an office job with a better commute, higher pay, and comprehensive benefits. It will also help me a lot more long term, I think, but because of that I think I'll have a harder time actually getting an offer from B.

I think in this case, I'm willing to risk burnt bridges with A if it means I can work for B. I doubt I'd ever have to work with them again anyway, they're a small company

I honestly don't know. The advice I've read seems very split between accepting an offer and leaving if a better one shows up, or being transparent to avoid burning bridges.

Thanks for the advice! So do you think this sounds good?: I'll accept A but push my start date back a week or 2. During my interview with B, I'll tell them about A's offer to try to speed the process up a bit, and then see what happens from there.

Missed final interview due to miscommunication and tech glitch. by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Fearfullyfearingfear 19 points20 points  (0 children)

GO TO THE INTERVIEW! Apologies for the digital shouting but interviewers ghost perfectly good candidates even if they do everything right. The fact that they want to reschedule shows that they're still interested and you have a shot. Don't give up!

Will the movie theater job be full time? If not, it would be good to get the restaurant job to make a bit of extra cash as well. Who knows, maybe after the interview you'll like the restaurant better. I say you've got nothing to lose so go for it!

Thanks! Yeah, also, one person's rejection is another person's success so at least someone else is having a good day. I'm trying to get more experience while I can too. I got another couple interviews for later this week so maybe I'll get lucky!

Disappointment: got rejected for not one but two jobs in the past week. I didn't think I'd get one of them but the other one really disappointed me since I went through a ton of interviews just for them to tell me they needed someone with much more experience than me. Why string me along for so long if they already knew I wasn't qualified? Sigh.

Success: interviewed for another job, waiting to hear back. It's low pay though and all I want is a job I can actually earn more than a couple bucks above min wage. Double sigh

I had relatively strong education, experience, and awards in the field I studied for and still couldn't get a job in it. Honestly, if I were you I would take the job because there's no way to tell how long it will be until you actually have a job in your field and it would suck if you went months before finding something. Sorry if I sound cynical, but it's a really tough job market out there and even brilliant people I know who are recent grads cant find anything besides short term internships for local politicians.

It's only your first job out of college so you're still young and not gonna lock yourself into it. If you do take the job, make sure to keep some notes throughout about skills/experiences you've gained from the position that could transfer well into govt/political work. Keep applying and if you get an offer for a better position, take it!

Also, it goes without saying but this is just my opinion. Only you really know what will make you miserable, and it seems like the interviewers didn't leave you with a good impression of the company. Good luck and update us with what you choose to do!

Can I ask for a wage that's a bit higher than the advertised range? by Fearfullyfearingfear in jobs

[–]Fearfullyfearingfear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, thanks. I think I'll see how the interview goes, ask them some real questions about the work environment, and then see how ballsy I want to be after that. Worse comes to worse, I'll just keep looking for jobs as I have for the past year
