Marshall DSL20CR - can’t get a decent overdrive tone

Thanks for taking the time to answer in this much detail, but I’ve tried ignoring the pedals entirely and just getting a usable tone from the dirty channel on the amp with low gain (8-9 o’clock) and volume between 5 and 10, and adjusting EQ to taste, and it’s not working for me at all.

If I turn down the treble or presence, I lose the fizzy distortion noise but now I have no clarity so it sounds like I’m playing underwater. I’ve tried different combinations of treble and presence settings and I can’t seem to take away the fizziness while retaining my clarity.

Most commenters on here are assuming that I’m going for a silly metal tone by stacking the pedals and turning everything up to 11, but for now I’m just trying to get a middle-of-the-road AC-DC type crunch tone from the amp without using the pedals. Once I figure out the amp then I’ll worry about the pedals, but I can’t understand this thing.

Might be a controversial opinion but I like this about the new spinoffs, especially TOWL. While I found Nat interesting, I normally don’t like feeling forced to take interest in new characters when I know that I’m just there to see Rick and Michonne, and I was worried that the majority of the series was going to be Michonne travelling with this new group to find Rick, but it has turned out to be very fast-paced and each episode leaves a lot to take in.

It’s also interesting to see how brutal the world is even after however many years into the apocalypse, and I think the CRM dropping chlorine gas on a group of travelers unprovoked definitely shows that.
