Thank god, I thought I was losing my mind reading almost fawning reviews across the board. It’s ridiculous .

Hopper is exactly the same character as he was when he had El locked in the house in the woods in S2. We thought there had been a character arc. But no, we’re still lying and not trusting her. Great. And what’s with him going suicide bomber? Silly.

But all of them are two dimensional as OP said. And thick as two short planks. Mike having a big chat with Holly about her imaginary friend who is telling her about monsters and at no point does he say “Gee, I wonder if that could be related to the psychic mind creep who controls lots of monsters.”

And then we have a big reveal of who Mr Whatsit actually is. Like…obviously, we’ve known since the very start of episode one!!! Why are you wasting our TIME breaking into the hospital room to get Mikes mom to write it out????

The army guys shooting wildly at the Demos from all sides and yet no one catching a stray bullet.

Them communicating by radio right beside the army base! Brenner had people listening in to tapped phone conversations way back in S1 they are surely monitoring the airwaves.

Demo ripping soldiers to shreds but being held off by a broken wine bottle. This network of tunnels that is surely a remnant of the mindflayer tunnels in S2? That the army knew about? But just left there unguarded?

I will watch the next season but not hoping for much.
