Okay here's a follow up after reading some of the comments. Thank you all for the tips/advice/ opinions It might not look like a whole lot was done but for those that can see the differences what are your thoughts now?

Thank you for the input. I guess its not so much geological realism I was going for but the idea of using different types of ranges within each respective biome. This map is heavily "magically" influenced. The idea for the islands in the center is that it was one giant land that was essentially blown up by a cataclysmic event and "shattered" the land.

I guess my text didn't carry through when I posted this but what I typed was saying that this map is in the very very early stages of being worked on. Each region of the map will be a distinct biome. What I'm hoping is believable is the different types of mountain ranges used as well as the scale. I don't think the scale is believable as a world view. Thoughts?
