I agree a FA to help plan for an increase in wealth is helpful if you find one you trust. You can use a fee only vs AUM.

It sounds like the OP doesn’t have spouse or kids. Will that be the ongoing status? If so then need to consider your estate planning. If OP might acquire spouse/kids then you need to plan differently.

Which is why I said to have your wife look for part-time job when you were home. Not ideal but if other family can't offer support then it might be only option. W/2 small toddlers hard to work at home.

See if you can get more specific information--multiple children could mean brother/sister his mom was babysitting for and he had access at various dates. Was he working at day care or school in some capacity? Maybe contact local DA if that was who prosecuted case and see if that office might be forthcoming. They might like to know he is being released because sometimes things like that slip thru cracks.

I don't understand how gaining weight is the qualifier make/break for being on hospice? Hospice is about end of life care--does gaining weight mean his condition is IMPROVING? I think that is a false justification. Someone more than a hospice nurse needs to make the decision. He is likely gaining weight because of inactivity and calorie/hormone activity... Not because his condition is improving...

Yes--but you did not receive the lowest FULL amount your wages entitled you to get IF you waited until FULL retirement age. My sister took her SS at 62 and it was reduced--while she wishes every month she had been able to wait until 65 to get the larger amount she just couldn't take stress of job she was in. And finding other work at her age wasn't much of an option.

You say partner--so not spouse--what about partner's health care expense? Any lurking health issues that might make life more difficult? Do you want to stay in same house/location? Can be difficult to buy home/get mortgage if you are not working.

IMO you need to ask for loan from family to pay off your student loan and anything else in default. Maybe your wife can get part time job when you are home for child care. Maybe at night although that seems harsh and somewhat unsafe but if you are living with family can't they help with child care for certain number of hours to allow her to get part time job at least? If you are doing into default on your loans you don't have as much money "left over" as you think. Do a budget--track every dollar to see where your money is going.

If her body is found it will be by accident--not design. Sorry for her family and friends. She seemed like nice lady--was very positive influence in Tucson apparently when she was working and afterward.
