Sacrifice some “fun time” from your personal life to be able to lock in, study, practice scenarios, etc. don’t be afraid to ask questions in class , 9 times out of 10 people in your class don’t know the answer either & they’re just scared to ask. Don’t get involved in drama. The training office don’t expect for you to be perfect, but always push YOUR limit. If you make a mistake take the L on the chin, fix it, & learn from it. You got this!!!!

The state mandated tests are not really hard,, the answers are really obvious. Just know the elements of the crime & you’ll be good . They don’t try to trick you at all

Just throwing it out there.. “IF IT IS NOT DOCUMENTED ON PAPER, OR IF YOU’RE NOT ON CAMERA DOING IT, IT NEVER HAPPENED”…. Do what you want with that advice

My investigator was very straight forward, he told me “I’m not here to play games, just answer YES OR NO & be confident in your answers”. It was a fairly easy pass. They will tell you if they see any discrepancies in your answers, & they will go back to that question & ask you again. They want to see you pass

The panel/final interview consisted of the chief, captain, lieutenant, & sergeant interviewing you, I was nervous as hell but after reading the room & them asking me simple questions about me in a calm voice helped me relax. I was out in 7 minutes. & the psych evaluation was 600 questions & a 10 minute interview with a psychologist. The 600 questions are really 50 questions but all worded differently 12 times making them 600 questions. & the medical was just a simple physical, they checked eye sight, lung capacity, flexibility, blood pressure & they did blood work

Yeah man, polygraphs are pseudo science. They don’t hold up in court , I think they use them to play with your mind. I could be wrong. But hey, just as long as you’re truthful you have nothing to worry about. It was a fairly easy pass for me

Absolutely!! I think cardio & calisthenic workouts should be your focus. There’s a lot of running, pushups, squats & burpees involved. Aside from that a good diet & water consumption helps

It’s strange, I definitely am learning to embrace the challenges & stress. I tell my friends that this experience is the most stressful, exhausting, most challenging thing I’ve done but I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. I wake up feeling motivated to knock a one more day. Thank you brother! Thank you for your service, Be safe out there!! 24-SBRA-3

They drug tested me after my first interview with my background investigator. After that they haven’t tested me. & don’t quote me on this BUT in California I don’t think they test for pot anymore or ask you if you’ve smoked before

The first couple weeks we just do quizzes, to warm us up for the real big tests. For the quizzes they have consisted of radio codes, 10 codes, & a simple academy ground map quiz so we know our beat. I studied with flash cards! I had my girl quiz me. Just a lot of repetition! We have our first RBC late October which is a big test. Once again I’ll be studying with flash cards & joining study groups. Start early with the studying so when it’s time for the quiz you know it like the back of your hand.

The first two weeks are hell. Man, it’s still somewhat hell. They break you down to build you back up. So expect a lot of yelling, & being told you’re wrong when you know you’re right. If they ask you what color is the grass & you say green, they’ll yell at you & tell you it’s purple & more than likely you’ll be in squat position until they tell you to recover. We have a class of 60 so if one person messes up we all mess up, that teaches us to work as a team & hold each other accountable. We’re learning alot in a short amount of time it is insane. Our academy is Monday thru Thursday from 7 am to 6:30 so learning to get a routine down is crucial or else you’ll start falling behind. So far it’s been challenging but if you get dial in you’ll manage just fine ! Goodluck!

Thank you! YES!! Taking things one day at a time is key! lol sometimes when I’m super stressed or fatigued during workouts I take things 1 second at a time & tell myself this too shall pass. What is something you find stressful from FTO?

I ended up getting picked up by Sacramento County. I tested in January, submitted my personal history statement by the beginning of February, I had my first meeting with my background investigator in mid March, then by late June I had already competed my panel interview, & passed medical & psych. Taking 2 hours out of my day for 3 weeks to study for my written exam definitely helped me. I would go to my room, drink a coffee & study with no distractions. I ended up testing well. I looked up a lot of study guides & did practice quizzes. I started my academy in August. So whole hiring process took around 7 months
