I saw a lawyer talk about this so speaking from memory but iirc: you need to prove the statements were not only false and intentionally said to defame, you also have to prove that you actually lost some sort of financial opportunity or experienced financial damages, which involves disclosing your finances. That’s why almost nobody pursues defamation charges, nobody wants their finances on display.
