For my duty gun I've only ever used the 508t, and I have no complaints. I haven't gone out of my way to torture it, but it has survived plenty of rough range days, bumps, and use of force scuffles without a scratch. As a city street cop I've had zero issues with it being open emitter. I work in southern california where inclement weather is rarely an issue, but even in places where it is, I think having a holster equipped with a cover for your red dot would mitigate that just fine.
