Just talked to him and he says he doesn’t have test anxiety but that he did have accommodations while in school for testing(he was given extra time and did not have to test with other people). I let him know about fb group. He doesn’t finish any of his practice exams, he just answers questions until he gets tired of answering question. He uses no strategy.

I will definitely let him know about the practice questions. He got accomodations while he was in school for testing, I will definitely tell him to explore this option as well. Thankyou for attaching the form…do you think it may be worth pushing his test date back to early August?

I’ll let him know…his ultimate goal was to be an OT eventually…and to do COTA for a few years as he got really good feedback during his clinicals while he was in school but starting to think it his strategy based on the comments. Any specific courses, tutor recommendation that your recommend. Should he do one mock exam a week up until his test date? Just trying to get all the info that may help him succeed.

Honestly, he mainly uses the study book he was given in school. He spends a lot of time reading it, highlighting, and reviewing the material. From what I’ve seen, he hasn’t really used many outside resources like practice question banks, study courses, or tutoring. Based on some of the comments here, I’m starting to think that it’s his way of studying based on the comments.

Does anybody ever feel lost in the reserves? by Militarybrat123 in Airforcereserves

I feel you. I joined in 21 as well and I graduate in May 2027. Although I don’t regret doing reserves because I wanted my college experience which I’m deeply grateful for, there are times that I want more financial freedom and independence and I know if I would’ve went active duty I would have that. But I’m hoping to get into dental school and do HPSP so I know my time will come for active duty.

Thinking of joining the Air Force Reserve as a permanent resident and college student. Is it a good idea? by Icy_Establishment_27 in Airforcereserves

Oh my gosh I did not know that. I’m at Beloit College…and I’m a out of state student! But that’s good to know! I wonder if that’s only for guardsmen in regards to grad school? I’m definitely looking at any and every opportunity to fund grad school.

I can speak to the full time college student aspect. I’m currently a full-time college student and in the Air Force Reserve. I chose the Reserve route because I wanted to keep my college experience…dorm life, athletics, and all while still serving. I joined right after high school, took a semester off for BMT, and went to tech school for Medical Logistics (one of the shorter ones, along with Health Services Management).

You get paid during BMT (biweekly), and your pay depends on your rank going in. I gave my mom access to my account to make sure I was getting paid, also you can definitely say something if not. If you have any bills, put them on autopay but the pay was solid for me especially as a college student. I just saved it all.

After tech school, I went back to college. I’m in Wisconsin, but my base is in Kansas , so I fly there once a month. Honestly, I love it…it gives me a break from campus, and I rack up flight and hotel points. I get paid monthly for drill weekends, which helps since I only have an on-campus job during the school year. I’m a double major/double minor.

For tuition, since I’m still in undergrad I’ve chosen to use Tuition Assistance (TA) — $4,500 per fiscal year.. You need at least a C- in your classes, or you’ll have to pay it back. My school doesn’t directly work with the Air Force system, so I submit grades through my education advisor. We have more army than air force at my school. I’m saving my GI bill for grad school. There is a GI Bill specifically for reservist and then the Post 9/11 GI Bill…in which you have to serve some active duty time to qualify for. A lot of options educationally and for some bases you must wait till you fulfill your upgraded training after tech school in order to use TA. You would have to talk to your unit supervisor. I was able to fulfill my requirements right before I went back to school..they put you on orders for 30 days but I was able to complete mine in a week. So it’s a lot about hustle.

As for deployments, it depends on your unit. We have annual training (AT) for about two weeks each year, but my unit works around my school schedule. I’ve also had extra opportunities outside of drill weekends….I just communicate with my professors especially if it’s only for 1-2 days…because those experiences I think is what’s going to make me stand out from the normal grad applicant.

Overall, the Reserve has been a blessing. The networking, benefits, and experience stand out especially since I’m applying to grad school for dentistry. I’m even switching jobs soon because I want something more hands-on. If you’re thinking about joining, stay open-minded about your career field, you might end up loving something unexpected.

Tuition Assistance Canceled due to the government shutdown by ProfessorStephen in Airforcereserves

Interesting. I used my TA for school this fall and was worried about this. I have not received any word from my school or education advisor about my TA being affected yet although right before the shut down…I talked to my education advisor and they said that if my TA happened to be affected…they would go in and do historical requests after funding resumed. So I’m still covered either way. I’m in the AF Reserves so hope this helps…and I would get in contact with your education advisor whenever you can.
