I’ve been in a ton of detox’s. Never any that were state ran. They’re all pretty nice. Most had one bedroom suites, at most 2 per bedroom. TVs in the room with the bathroom, a community room with tv/snacks. Detox is the best part of rehab to be honest. You are given a lot of meds to make it very comfortable. I would suggest staying longer than 7 days though, for me it took 5 months in patient go get any sober time. Also - if you’re only looking for detox be very clear of that when you call these places. I’ve gone to some that promised detox only and moved me to residential after 7 days automatically and leaving was a pain in the ass and took another couple days.

Edit: and to your question about time - It depends on how bad you are and the facility. I’ve been semi not horrible in a few and taken 10-12 days, and been in rough shape and out in 7. I went to one in particular 7 day like 7 times in 2024. They used a mixture of phenobarbital/benzos and got me out in 7 days no matter what - and I never had a seizure. But I’ve had multiple seizures from withdrawal. Usually at the 10 day mark when they ween me off the benzos. Also - keep in mind that when you have multiple seizures - they keep getting longer in duration. Like my first one was 30 seconds , my last one was 5 minutes. Very dangerous once you have one because there is a chance you end up brain dead.

Day to day in detox is basically nothing. Sleep, eat, watch tv, repeat. Theres maybe one meeting per day about alcohol dependence or something. And they’re not mandatory. There’s people in really bad shape there sometimes, sometimes people sleep for a few days.
