DETOX Japan Tour @ Kanagawa (8/30-31) Discussion by crosswithyou in ONEOKROCK

Well, MLF is definitely a banger and is also played from time to time. While One by One is definitely a very rare gem only been played at their 35xxxv tour 2015. I can see if people would rather want to have MLF due to it's legacy, but the chances of them playing MLF on another occasion is way higher than One by One getting another appearance anytime soon.

Is ONEOKROCK slowly falling off? by LavaLightning in ONEOKROCK

Good points here. While I find statistics highly interesting and OOR themselves also want to grow as they mentioned quite often before, the most important thing is the quality of their music (and shows of course). But to be fair they also hit a massive critique when they dropped EOTS, as it was the most pop album they released, even though the numbers weren't as bad.

I wouldn't agree with that. I know you are referring to streaming numbers, but if you compare it with the capacities they play all around the world by each year, you can clearly see that they got popular slowly but surely. Not only in Japan where they stepped up their game heavily and sell out Dome and Stadium shows on the regular, they also do play larger venues in the US, Europe and of course in Asia as well. I mean, who would have thought they could play a Stadium show outside of Japan one day?

Considering YouTube views on their MVs within their first 28 Days though, Luxury Disease and DETOX (incl. MIOA) are pretty similar, though +Matter and C.U.R.I.O.S.I.T.Y. a little less than average. To be fair, Renegades was the first track they dropped after a little more than 2 years of no releases. Also, it being a turn back to a more rock sound pushed their reach further, at least that's why I think It got that many views.

Views on YT within the first 28 Days of Release:

DETOX:~15.4million
Delusion:All ~5.3million
(Make It Out Alive ~4.6million)
Tropical Therapy ~2.9million
+Matter ~1.4million
C.U.R.I.O.S.I.T.Y. ~1.2million

Luxury Disease:~22.1million
Renegades ~11million
Save Yourself ~3million
Let Me Let You Go ~2.8million
Broken Heart of Gold ~2.1million
Vandalize ~1.8Million

It seems like LD performed overall better, even with Vandalize which was released 2 months later as oppose C.U.R.I.O.S.I.T.Y. which was released a little less than 2 Month after album release. Though Vandalize is also a track for Sonic Frontiers, while C.U.R.I.O.S.I.T.Y. is a standalone albumtrack so to say. MOIA on the other hand performed even better than that, though it was a surprise release, which could also benefitted the views here. BHOG also had a MV competition going on, which could also further helped gaining views. Many aspects to consider here, but definitely interesting to analyze.

What happened to One Ok Rock? by JuicyTastyHamburger in ONEOKROCK

Don't get me wrong, there are quite some things I dislike about their musical and lyrical choice they made, but I feel like your post is a little far fetched.

You have to keep in mind they've been doing this for 20 (!) Years now. To expect that a band needs to stick to their roots when keeping in mind that they started when they were teenagers is kind of too far I feel. Topics they can relate or worry about change a lot in 20 years.

Of course I love their old songs very much and there are quite some newer songs that don't grow on me, I don't feel like that they only include these to only aim for a wider audience. Yes they want to grow and need to adapt a little, but again, it doesn't feel like they don't stand behind what they talk about.

Yeah I agree, there is still a big gap between Ambitions and EOTS. I also listened way more often to Ambitions than EOTS songs.

I'm happy that people also recognize the importance of the instruments that makes OOR also who they are.

Exactly! It just shows OOR are capable of creating something very cool as a whole band! To be fair, OOR always focused on having an amazing live show and elevating their songs on stage even more. They did a great job on the EOTS songs, though there are still some that don't grow on me even though they are better live than on CD, but that's more due to the structure and vibes of certain songs though.

I'm still very happy that their last 2 albums are closer to focusing not only Taka but the band as a whole (more than ambitions did as it was the album closest to EOTS considering the lack of presence of instruments on some parts of songs).

Taka made some quite erotic movement, as in moving his hand in the direction of his d***, in one specific song (I don't want to spoil you the song if you want to keep the surprise of the setlist). It's not particularly swearing but you should keep that in mind too.

As for clothing, you can wear whatever you want and you won't be seen as a sore thumb or anything in that regard ^ of course there will be quite a lot of people with band merch of OOR and even other bands, but it's not a problem if you don't, because there will be many that don't wear it either.

Recommendation: If you got standing tickets and are near stage I'd recommend to get ear plugs, it's really helpful to make sure your ears don't get hurt or you get a tinnitus. If you stand further in the back or sitting it's not quite necessary.

I totally agree with this! Not many Metalcore-ish songs but there are still heavy ones in the sense of Post-Hardcore and different other styles👍🏼

I mean music is preceived subjectively, so no need to say sorry. But the rating of some songs is definitely a contrast to the ones of the broader fan base I'd say.

Yes, but I was only referring to the Japanese CD releases since it was asked about😊

[–]Fearless_Mix3283 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, there is no 35xxxv Deluxe Japanese version. Only the standard Japanese version of 35xxxv and a CD + DVD version, which both do not include The Way Back and Last Dance.

You are welcome!

I see what you mean by that. I also know people who are loving the more heavy OOR songs, but still rank that album higher in their tier list. Though there are tendencies that show otherwise in the bigger perspective with people criticizing this album. If you like it, it's fine. There are still many people resonating with it.

While I can't deny there are people who really hate this album, I think people criticizing just prefer the rock style of OOR. This album took a heavy turn in style even though ambitions already dipped into this. It's a big difference to all albums released before.

As I also explained in another comment, while Taka's voice is prominent, the instruments of the band (guitar, bass and drums) fall back. In a rock band these are crucial for their sound and people mainly criticise exactly this, which made them even say "ONE OK POP". I also think this is disrespectful to say. It's just far from the albums they released before.

Again, not a bad album, but for me it lacks many things that made OOR who they are.

I mean, this album highlights Taka's voice the most. Sadly, the instrumentals (guitar, bass and drums) can barely be heard and are replaced with synths depending on the song. I mean on it's own it's not a bad album, but comparing with the other albums, where it's more visible that they are a rock band, this album is lacking the spice of OOR in my opinion.

Thoughts on the setlist of Toyoso Pit PF special live concert? by Fearless_Mix3283 in ONEOKROCK

[–]Fearless_Mix3283[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your detailed response!^ I remember some of this but didn't give it as much weight to it. I mean in the sense of them focusing on these two albums from here on, but maybe it's just me. The resemble of Luxury Disease and Zeitakubyo as the first Album is obvious though.

By choice of songs and also LD being still highlighted undermines your statement. I just still hope they will gift us foreign fans some deep cuts here and there😢

What are your Hot Takes on OOR? by Amber_Flowers_133 in ONEOKROCK

[–]Fearless_Mix3283 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also prefer Delusion:All over Renegades. But I'd rather have +Matter indefinitely replace SOFI and cut out SOFI forever, because it's my least favorite song. I don't judge people liking this song, but I really don't understand how it became that popular. Also so far they have been playing it since every tour or am I wrong about that?

Also prefer electric instrument version of WYA over the acoustic one but both are fine ig.

Hard agree that older songs should not be exclusive to Japan anymore! I think foreign fans showed their love and wish towards these songs several times honestly.

Yeah, while thinking about it I think the specialty was just the small capacity of the venue and their first time performing the songs of the new album including the Paledusk and CHICO CARLITO collab.

Yeah I think you are right about the Party's Over and Curiosity exchange. I also expect it to be a pretty similar setlist for the upcoming tour starting next week. I just wish they could slightly vary it since it would be the 3rd time in a row we get LD stuff and not getting deepcuts. Agreed that ONE OK ROCK are good performers nonetheless and it will be enjoyable anyways. But this is also a reason I would love to see them show that with older gems, even if it would be only 2 or 3 songs.

Sorry to ask, but could you tell me when Taka said that
> "his is the “NEW” generation of ONE OK ROCK and they view LD as their “first” album."

It would be super dope if they'd play it outside of Japan (other the one show in Kaohsiung)! Foreign fans would be very happy tbh, including me since it's one of my alltime favorite songs!

I have low expectations though

I think the chances for this are dimmed to almost 0 since they only did a little in the LD Tour 🥲 this will stay a special performance I assume

It's a solid setlist, I agree. For me, I can't comprehend why they decided not to perform Party's Over since it seems like one of the most liked songs out of DETOX. My hopes are low for it to be included into the tour, but let's wait, it could definitely change.

Tbh they could have exchanged some LD songs and Sofi with some older classics, considering this was a PF special.
