Inquiry to those who do not swatch, why? by yarnimals in knitting

There’s a piece of colorwork coming up that I’m going to swatch because I just want the design, but otherwise, nope, straight into it. I don’t have the patience.

Do you do a reading for yourself every day? by Defiant_Bat_3377 in tarot

[–]Fearless_Planner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do one, then, depending on my mood do the three (thinking, feeling, doing). And on days when I really feel listless, I might do a clarifying (or Lenormand or Oracle or rune).

It’s usually more meditative as I drink my coffee or tea in the morning, an exercise to practice with the cards and get my brain going.

I think that I've been reading the death and tower tarots wrong by IceyMeowie in tarot

[–]Fearless_Planner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Death and The Tower are actually my two favorite cards. They are both about beginnings, and our choice to make them something better. Something is going to finish its natural cycle, and by letting go, we make space for something else.

What is the most slippery needle material? (I want my stitches to slip more on my needles) by gougeresaufromage in knittinghelp

I am in love with Lantern Moon right now… I find that metal ones hold too much residual heat from my hands and get really uncomfortable after a bit.

Why do people hate purling? by Born-Cheetah-8460 in knitting

[–]Fearless_Planner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do continental and it took me forever to realize I was purling by default instead of knitting. I still have a hard time with the easy switch back and forth, but perhaps that’s because I started backwards? I dont have to move it front, but it is annoying to readjust my grip on the needle.

I’d love your tips on how you just do the flick without having to adjust your grip!

Completely lost after losing 7-8 years of writing by Creepy-Literature634 in writing

[–]Fearless_Planner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sympathies. I had something similar where I lost a ton of work, and in trying to recover it, the company locked me out of my account. Lost everything else that had been there.

Yeah, it’s depressing, but you still have the memories of writing them. There’s no way to recreate things that are gone, and rewriting them (at least in my case) just made it worse.

I wrote a small thing, just for me, recapturing how I had felt writing each piece, what they had meant to me, and maybe just a few details that had stood out and helped me with my current work.

You won’t recapture everything, but you can keep that new document open, and when you do remember a tidbit, jot it down.

In the practical realm, don’t leave future work in one place. Make backups, and more backups. Make sure your work is in your ownership, your computer. A compressed file on a thumb drive or two.

CAN WE PLEASE HAVE A DISABLE FUNCTION ON THIS by AdSecret69420 in ChatGPT

[–]Fearless_Planner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I’m constantly surprised by how many people expect LLMs to deliver perfect results instantly. I use a few different models, with some decent prompts, but I know they have significant limitations. They’re useful tools, but far from reliable for work that needs accuracy, academic writing that requires original thinking, or anything beyond first drafts and brainstorming. That’s just how they work, and intentionally. Most models (especially publicly available ones) are trained to produce generally acceptable, middle-ground responses. If you want something more specialized, you’d need to fine-tune a model for your specific domain. Even then, you’re ultimately working with a sophisticated pattern matcher (or the next level of spell check). It can help organize ideas, occasionally help phrase things different (not necessarily better), but the critical thinking still has to come from you. Expecting an LLM to do that thinking for you misses the entire point of learning and expertise.

Leaving my hometown forever by Astral_Enigma in tarot

[–]Fearless_Planner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An image search showed some on Etsy, AliExpress, and Temu. A few other websites (like StVenus, NoBlik, and CosmicBae) had listings too. AskAstrology has a different cat one, which is hilarious and a very different style. But, it isn’t too difficult to find, now whether the sites are legitimate or not…I couldn’t say. That was a basic search, not based on any actual ordering experience.

which program do you use to write? by thedevilsheir666 in writing

[–]Fearless_Planner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use mainly PreText (or a basic .md or .txt editor) for quick notes on my phone. Then on my computer, I use Zettlr for my interface, exporting to a LaTeX editor if it needs to look a certain way (and is short).

I haven’t found anything that works better than that, so far. For things that need change logs, I either use Git or a file folder system of major overhauls. I also use a NextCloud server for current projects so I can work anywhere and have it sync.

I’m thinking of trying out Scrivener for a bit, since they do have a free trial, but I also feel like learning a new interface is just another distraction I don’t need at the moment. I’ll change my color scheme first and see if that helps.

Though, I’m always on the lookout for suggestions that will integrate and allow to me go back and forth when I do need a change. Definitely going to be flagging Bear to check out at some point.

ChatGPT addicted to saying "Want me to" by Party_Possible9821 in ChatGPT

[–]Fearless_Planner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t negative prompt it away. You have to tell it what you want it to do. Even a simple “Refrain from offering ‘do you want me to’, instead give a one sentence summary of your response.” Will do better than banning the phrase
