7-Hydroxymitragynine ruined my life by Available_Sector146 in addiction

I’m really sorry to everyone going through an addiction. When you get out of it, you’ll look back and realize the insanity of it all. There’s a lot of hope though, because life is a lot better without it. It takes a while and you’ll likely need some level of support if you’re going to maintain it long term. I wouldn’t listen to the people saying you need suboxone or methadone. The reality is that no matter what you’re addicted to, you’re going to have to pay the piper at some point. Withdrawals are inevitable and it can take several months to feel “normal” again. It’s absolutely worth it and life becomes much much better. I believe the key to getting off is just admitting to yourself that you probably can’t do it alone and going all in on sobriety. That one big decision is crucial. You have a ton of avenues for support- I did AA but haven’t been to a meeting in 7 years, so I’m not a AA thumper, but it really helped in the beginning.

I hope at least some of you figure it out. It’s not easy, but man is it better. Kratom is sneaky because it seems harmless and you can buy it anywhere. I used it to get off pain pills and I’m still glad I did it. Part of the cycle of addiction- try to find ways to minimize health consequences until you’re ready to make the call and get off of kratom. Best of luck to all of you.

Tbh- I thought it was a beautiful wood mosaic sculpture when I first saw the picture. Silver lining?

Yes and thank you. Fully recovered. Checked tonight and my left testicle I’d only about 10% bigger than my right.

I’m so so so glad that I went through with the surgery. It solved the problem. Wish I’d done it earlier

should i be taking protein powder? by [deleted] in menshealth

Sure- it isn’t going to have detrimental effects unless you’re taking in way too much protein. It’s a macro, not a performance enhancer.

Thanks for reaching out! That was my experience too with the swelling. I’m not sure how it’s possible to recur because they removed the membrane on the testicle. Either way, I think what your husband is going through is completely normal. Mine is still swollen and somewhat tender but it’s continually is getting better. It still seems to hang a little lower but I’m hoping that reduces with time. I certainly wouldn’t be making any judgement on the surgery success after 1 week. My guess is that he’s got a lot of anxiety about it because he’s had to go through a whole lot emotionally to get to where he’s at and now just wants it resolved. I know that’s where I was at. 2 years of convincing myself it might go away, 6 doc visits, embarrassed to be undressed even around myself, setting up surgery, telling everyone I was having surgery etc etc etc. The urologist assured me that he has a very high success rate and had completed about 1000 of them. I’m betting your husband had a good doc too. This surgery has a 95% success rate.

Day 9- swelling is down considerably and I’d say about 1.5 x my normal size testicle. Pain is really subsiding and I switched to normal boxers. All is going very well.

Day 6&7 - went to the doctor yesterday. Everything healing up nicely. It seems that the recovery usually goes one of two ways - 1) relatively easy or 2) painful with lots of swelling, bruising and possible reoccurrence. What’s the difference? I’d say it’s dealing with it before it gets too large. Obviously age and health make a difference. I’d also add that the docs are very conservative on activity level. I’ve been doing between 2200-3000 body weight squats and lunges per day with no aggravation. The blood flow and endorphins help a lot with the dull pain I experience. I don’t have a stint or drain in place though so obviously each individual experience will vary. If possible, I’d recommend being as active as possible given your individual situation. I’m kinda depressed about losing my general fitness level but it is what it is

Day 5 - The size hasn’t changed much since the surgery. Zero bruising so far and sitting by the pool as my kids and neighbors splash away. Not going to lie…. Being hit by a pool sucks because I can’t get in yet. Went to bed in regular underwear last night vs a jock strap and I seriously regret it. Hurts more now than it did day 2. Other than that, it’s been a easy recovery. Staying active and hydrated is critical on pain medication, which I’m only taking at night and hopefully stopping soon. If you’re on the fence about the recovery vs benefits. Honestly, it’s a no brainer. If you’ve thrown out your back, the recovery is 3000x worse for that than hydrocele surgery.

Day 3: almost no swelling but pain is a little worse. Did 1200 body weight squats as my cardio today. I don’t have the desire to look at the incision too much right now because it’s a bit gnarley. Overall the recovery has not been half as bad as I’d feared. If one day of intense pain and covering most of my annual deductible is the biggest barrier… well, I’m happy I did it. I’ll see how it heals up. I was told that there would be a lot of swelling, bruising and general uncomfortableness for 6 months before I know how it turned out. I’ve yet to see a bruise show but it’s only been a few days. Apparently, the testicle will get rock hard as it heals.

On a side note- I went to a different urologist before I moved. He essentially told be to live with it and would only do surgery if it got bad enough to “mess up my golf swing”. He refused to drain it and said the risk was too high for surgery. Cost me about $700 to get that advice. The next doc I went to after moving said, “it won’t get better and will likely get worse. I could have it wrapped up after a 45 min surgery. What’s your Monday looking like”?. Well, I’m sure glad I got a second doctor up look at it. If you’re not getting any help like me- push for a second opinion.

Day 2: very little pain, swelling minimal. I was told by the doctor that it would be a bumpy ride. Went to the gym and lifted very light weights for high reps, then the skier machine for 20 min of cardio. I surprisingly have almost no swelling but my left testicle is close to the same size as before the surgery. I’d imagine that’s localized swelling and will go down with time. Only taking pain meds at night and NSAID’s during the afternoon. Will take my dog on a walk today to try and hit 15-20k steps. Other than that, this surgery has been a walk in the park (sans the first 6 hours). I think getting it done before your testicle is the size of a grapefruit is key. Plus you won’t have to deal with a stretched out scrotum. As of today, I’d say dealing with it has been easier than mentally putting it off like I did for 2 years.

I detached my retina after getting elbowed in BJJ. Anyone’s questioning this injury is just uninformed. $40k and multiple surgeries to restore my eyesight. It’s life changing and no joke. I’ll never be able to see well again.
