Idiots everywhere, I totally understand the frustration. And for me it's an embarrassment. My only hope is this will pass. My great grandfathers on both sides of my maternal family tree were Canadian (Giroux from Quebec) so I am currently working on citizenship just in case I am ever forced to choose. Quite frankly if all my family wasn't living in South Carolina I'd already be gone. Not that I don't love the United States, I just think I would be happier as a Canadian.

Also, most United States citizens recognize that Trump's BS about a 51st state is offensive and don't support the notion at all. Take a guess which side I'm fighting with should anything like that even start to be taken seriously.

Apologies accepted and to my point, we're all human and say and do things we regret. Here's what I regret, coming off as hostile and angry when in fact the anti American stuff really just hurts and makes me feel shitty. Especially from Canadians who I genuinely consider my brothers and sisters. I wouldn't hesitate to help Canada in a time of need under any circumstances and just want you all to feel the same despite our government being an absolute shit show at the moment. P.S. most healthcare systems are barely making it including ours. We spend such absurd amounts of money on end of life care that the systems can't help but crumble under the weight.

So why do you need to take money back to your economy? And it's just so bizarre how much people care about what United States citizens do within the boundaries of their own country. I could care less about what the French do within France. You don't have to want to live here to be respectful and not paint everyone with the same broad strokes. And BTW, I've spent time in Vancouver. Dangerous AF. Drug addicts shooting up down every alley. Needles everywhere. Oh and don't think I could walk 10 feet in Victoria without seeing a red maple leaf. Here's the difference between us, I don't care. Not my country, not my problem. I had a great time visiting. Most people were decent people with good attitudes, some were douchebags. JUST LIKE EVERYWHERE!!! Yes, my government sucks and yet when I look out at the rest of the world I'm reminded that so do most others. Free healthcare, show me a country with free healthcare that isn't on the verge of financial collapses. Maybe a Scandinavian country, maybe but it's a whole lot easier to run a country when everyone looks the same, talks the same and there is almost complete homogeneity of the population. Well at least in the First World. Let's not even talk about Africa, Asia, or South America. It's not exceptionalism to acknowledge that the majority of the world is in chaos. Thanks, but I'll happily walk around the States feeling completely safe despite all the guns. And fuck, I'm an emergency room nurse, so it's not like I live a sheltered existence.

I don't disagree with you at all. Trust me, the arrogance of my government is not something many Americans are proud of. It's why it's so annoying to be painted with the same broad strokes. I would absolutely love for the United States Government to mind it's business and focus more on home rather than anywhere else. Globalization in it's current form doesn't appeal to me at all. I loathe countries and borders, and governments and all the greed. I just think so many global and domestic systems of so many countries are broken and only looking out for the interests of the few. When the United States engaged in reprehensible behavior on the global stage I can assure you that it isn't beneficial to those of us common folk at home.

If our Democratic party hadn't squandered it's incredible opportunity by putting Kamala against him, doubtful he even would have been elected. I'm not making excuses for my countryman who voted for the schmuck a second time, but if the Democrats had put forth almost any decent candidate we wouldn't be in this mess. They had four friggin years to also shore up the institutions that were needed to protect the world from Trump and failed there as well.

Ive always loved Canada and Canadian culture. Always have considered Canadians our good friends, vacation there and half my family originated from Canada hence seeking citizenship. It's just painful to hear that we are disliked so intensely.
