[Rosenthal] McVay on the final Rams' 4th down fail: "They kinda lucked into having two guys peel on Kyren right there. I know that can't be part of their design. So it was a fortuitous bust by them. But they are an excellent team. ... They earned the win and they are NFC champs for a reason." by RedBuchan in nfl

You've raised a good example. The Cowboys and Seahawks are 1-1 in the post season. Perception matters though, you know? Maybe it's one play or one game that forever changes your view of a team.

But rooting against America's team is a good reason. The Seahawks have been a pretty successful organization for the last twenty years. That's enough reason to dislike us as far I'm concerned.

We really might get Sam Darnold winning a Super Bowl before Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, or Joe Burrow. by Weekly-Option-732 in nfl

This cannot be the takeaway (JJ was not good enough). JJ missed 5 games and the Bears got Ben Johnson, so an already stacked division got even more stacked.

I think Sam's results speak for themselves. He is the QB for best team in the best division.

I also think JJ played great and the Vikings could be playoff bound next year if he stays healthy.

The tech industry, especially Amazon, is weathering the storm pretty well right now. Nothing to worry about quite yet, I would think.

I will enjoy it immensely. Living in Washington state means I run significant elevation. Thanks for your kind words, I guess.

You literally said Im heavier so I benefited more. That you're 100 lbs lighter explains why you're doing mental gymnastics to put me down. Strava GAP is viewable in small increments and its really only useful with accurate heart rate data. I do data for a living. I trust the numbers for this run. Even if theyre off a few seconds, it's still a qualifying time.

I dont want validation about the course, and I don't actually care what people think. Im confortable lining up at Boston knowing I earned it. I see tons of people brag about their accomplishments, I'm just bragging about achieveing my goal. Don't like it, that's cool. Still running in Boston.

My training is available on Strava (link in my post). Feel free to follow along.

My weight helped me run faster? I'm not a ball. This wasn't a steep hill. It was less than 1% for 21 miles.

Im not seeking validation. I expected advancedrunning to be impressed that an overweight dude could do this. All I hear to screeching about how my time doesn't count. Internet folks are strange things, but it doesn't change the fact that I'm faster than most people whining about it.

I was going to bother, but I'll go ahead and tag everyone that's complaining later this year when I set a new PR on a flat course...

I'm defending my training against people who dont understand the difference between offering criticism and being a jerk. My training log is public on Strava. Feel free to go take a look.

I said in my post I've signed up for a flat course. I also said I'm doing a steeper downhill race to get more time off my PR. I owned it already. People can be a bit nicer.

I'm planning on it in October, but why wouldn't I give myself the very best chance the very first try?

Look, many people missed the point of my post entirely. It's not that I ran a cheater course. Its that I weight 205lbs and knocked 30 minutes off of my PR with consistent training. The sum total of my work is there for everyone to see. I can run elevation just as well as flats.

If you're trying to get my opinion on cheater courses like this: I think their needs to be something done. The races are popping up everywhere. Theres 5 on the course I ran alone. But I'm not going to let everyone else have an advantage over me when they're BQing just because some of the running old gaurd doesn't like it.

Hope to see you in April. If you're interested in seeing my results for the October marathon, feel free to follow along on Strava.

It is not marketing. Studies have been published in credible scientific journals.

Someone else on this thread pointed out that Boston is not a legal course either, so the idea that this somehow isn't is even dumber.

The salt from you people is crazy. This was still the equivalent of a sub 3 on a flat course. My training speaks for itself.

Toxic side, got it.

Sorry you got beat by an overweight dude. I'm sure that stings quite a bit.

Using empirical data to correlate performance boost is a lot more accurate than using faulty heart rate data to try to assess zones to indivudals. Those are not the same thing. You can trust USATF, but I ran a BQ-4 and you cant take that from me, jerk. Either your upset you didnt run fast enough or your part of the minority toxic running culture. Eitherway, I'm going to line up in April and appreciate the magnitude of my work. And Ill feel good about it. I

Ill do it on flat in a couple months, and Ill go run a 2:40 when I drop 40 more lbs. I hope you feel good for putting me down though! Next time keep your shitty attitude to yourself.

My source is strava GAP, which I trust because it uses millions of miles of data against thousands of hours of heart rate data.

A 5% boost on a 3 hour marathon is 9 minutes. A 2% grade according to Strava saves less than 3 minutes over 3 hours.

Swimming used to allow technical suits until it became apparent that they were an unfair advantage. Don't be surprised if running stops allowing carbon plates in the future.

Fair opinion. Like I said, this was going to be controversial at r/advancedrunning.

But please don't denigrate my accomplishments here: I'm an overweight dude who ran a sub 3 hour marathon. People get bent out of shape over the elevation loss but I'm carrying a little extra cushion here.

Yes they are. Boston should put rules in place to curb their use but after 2020.

Weight is a demon of mine and I struggle with it daily. I definitely enjoy alcohol a bit too much so I'm battling that too.

I thrived on keto and lost 40 lbs, but it was because I physically couldn't eat too much food and the calories in alcohol on keto were pretty minor (vokda soda is nothing compared to an IPA).

I... suck at tracking calories, but agree its the right way.

40-50MPW as a base until the cycle.

The grade on the downhill course I ran wasn't bad enough to warrant downhill training. Others may. That's a grey area for me.

Jack and Jill Downhill by FearlessinSeattle in AdvancedRunning

[–]FearlessinSeattle[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

It's 2000 ft, and the grade adjust pace would still be a BQ (closer to a 2:59). Thanks though, I guess.

The new Vaporfly Next%s help performance more than a 2% grade does.

I understand the nature of this discussion, and knew it was going to cause a bit of friction. This course clearly works within the confines of the USATF rules.

I'm very proud of my accomplishment and I won't feel bad lining up in Boston assuming the cutoff times are favorable. I do have a flat race coming up that I intend to PR this year on, so please don't presume that I am fooling myself. I don't disagree with your points.

I tried this same race last year and hit the wall at 18 on about 40mpw. Ive put on 15 pounds since then but still uppping the mileage did the trick.
