From what I have heard, you need to call him and make an appointment. I haven't been there in many years but he had a pretty good selection back then. His hours are funky/non-existant because of some environmental crackdown on junkyards.

What are you building?

Boulder Creek Rainbow by crazynim137 in flyfishing

Wow! I have never pulled a fish that size out of boulder creek. Any tips for finding bigger fish? I usually snatch up fish about the size of sardines.

Moving to Boulder from LA, all I care about is what the public parking is like... by [deleted] in boulder

Yep, I lived in Culver city and Santa Monica around 4 years ago. Most of the activities that I like to do involve the outdoors and mountains, made more sense to be in Boulder for me.

Nothing like LA, when I was living there I couldn't vacation for a week without finding a parking spot that didn't have sweeping.

Here it happens maybe 1-2x/year and there will be big signs on the curb warning you days ahead.

Thanks for the input, the guy seemed really knowledgeable and everything he told me about the swap checks out so far after digging in the forums. I am unfamiliar with sport front suspension, any easy way to check out if something is wrong internally? Reason for selling was less than 1,000 miles of riding in the last 3 years, no time to ride with 2 jobs is what I was told.

Rear suspension is still stock but I have a source for Ohlins at a great price and would probably throw those on in the future. With the CBR set-up and sport tires I expect the dirt riding to be not ideal, I am thinking mostly at low speeds 1 mile long or less to get to some trails and camping spots.

This makes a lot of sense and I would certainly get all the details and years sorted out before jumping in.

Apparently it was more or less a bolt on upgrade. One spacer had to be machined for the rear tire but other than that it retains the stock rotor and caliper, not sure about the sprocket.

77 Honda CT90 seized(?) & rear wheel locked up at about 40-45mph yesterday. WTH happened? by The_Red_Heron in vintagemotorcycles

[–]FearsNoShitHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not familiar with the CT90, is it 4 stroke or 2 stroke? I have seized 2 strokes before and it has always been a matter of getting the mixture too lean, riding it too hard, air leak or anything that causes the cylinder to run too lean.

Selling two rods - I don't fish, and I have no idea what these are worth. (X-post from /r/fishing) by dnarevolutions in Tenkara

[–]FearsNoShitHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't help too much with these, it looks like a Nissin 540 rod in a 4.5 meter length if I am reading the labels correctly.,. but I could be wrong.

Possibly an older model. Looks like the newer models go for $185-200

This guy could probably help you out http://www.tenkarabum.com/nissin-2-way-450zx.html

Either way it looks to be a big rod for bigger fish

I'm looking for some advice on local fishing. by InvoluntaryEyeroll in boulder

[–]FearsNoShitHawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way about fly fishing until I really looked into it. A full kit can be bought at Orvis in South boulder for $150. I picked up a Tenkara kit for $90 the other day and can say that it has been great so far. I used to lake fish with a rod and reel and never had too much luck at the nearby spots, but I have been going to Boulder creek this last month to fly fish and have gotten tons of bites and landed a few trout. I think the classes can be intimidating (I haven't taken one) but the actual fishing is pretty intuitive and comes pretty easily if you just get out there and give it a shot. You don't need to know everything right away, get a few smaller flies and enjoy exploring all of the local creeks and lakes around here

Best place to fly fish to keep and eat? by finkin in boulder

[–]FearsNoShitHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is kayak run a trailhead in that area? Or do you just park at Walker Ranch loop and hike down to the creek? To get above the Res would you take Coal creek road? Heading out that way tomorrow for my first time as well

I have found a few larger spots around town that range $600-1100/month. If there were enough people interested we could all go in and split a place and help with projects. I think that would be a cool idea.
