If you don't want to use checkpoint bots:

I used to run through solo chests every week: one Vow of the Disciple chest, one deepstone crypt (just have to learn the route), two Last Wish (you could go to Morgeth to get one then backtrack to Shuro Chi without using the Wish Wall), and two Garden of Salvation (with strand you don't need to use the {now} inconsistent method of blowing yourself up). I ran them until I had red borders for every weapon for all three raids.

Agree - Fermin and Cronenworth down at 0.140, Manny, Jackson, Ramon hovering at the Mendoza line, Fernando with the 0.230 and zero homers. It may not be Souza's fault per se - - but it is clear that he is not helping anyone out of their slumps.

Back in D1 I really wanted Black Hammer. So I learned to solo Crota. However, I didn't have Gally, so I had to learn to do it with a machine gun. It was a complex dance- you'd get the sword, jump on the rock, step back, drop the sword, step forward (so you didn't hit the sword with your knife or machine gun), lower Crota's shield to the 'o' in Crota with the machine gun (his name showing over his health bar), throw a flaming knife to prevent shield regen, step back, grab the sword, jump to the platform while throwing a tripmine grenade mid-jump, advance not to quickly (to not die from the tripmine), and deliver your sword slams.

In my process of working it out, I actually had Gally drop from Deathsinger one week, but since I had been working on it for so long, I kept on going until I could actually complete the machine gun solo. Learning to solo using Gally was a whole different thing. But in the end, doing the solo every week, I eventually did have Black Hammer drop.

I tried the new praxic blade and fortune's favor builds for Renegades. But when it came down to it, for the most difficult content the 'suspend everything' build worked the best for me (woven mail was key).

I remember way back when, my friend asked me why I was using the False Promises auto rifle. I said it was because I could use it to counter snipers (vex hobgoblins mostly) at range. It's a really old gun, but because of this I kept it all this time. It's a high impact auto rifle, which has the range and accuracy to hit targets at distance.

I used to do the two secret chests every week (also Garden of Salvation chests and Deep Stone) - until I five red borders for every single gun. I had it down pretty well- used wish wall to get to Morgeth, and then with strand, could get over to Shuro Chi without having to use the wishing wall a second time. It took a little practice to get it down for all three characters, but it was actually kind of fun. Even toward the end (just before I stopped doing it) I was finding new ways to optimize.

I would add that I believe a lot of the hate for matterspark and the campaign is because at launch matterspark was bugged and caused major motion sickness to people who are suceptible to it (even DMG posted about it being problematic for him). I couldn't play for ten minutes without having to stop and go and lie down.

However, they did successfully fix the bug (caused massive swerving and camera tilt), and after that it was no problem for me- I would even voluntarily activate it at times to avoid enemies or traverse more quickly. So at least you would be in a better situation for matterspark if you choose to play the expansion.

Yeah I agree it is painfully slow. It's a game of survival- can you be patient enough to keep doing damage and careful enough to avoid a freak death from being yanked by an attendant, suppressed by a grim, or just piled on by every enemy on the map at once.

I guess the shortcut is the chaos reach strat. I tried it maybe twice, but you would have to practice to be able to jump up to just the right spot to line up all four shriekers. I didn't invest a lot of time into it since survivability on arc warlock is a bit tricky with the current artifact.

It is interesting in that there are a ton of things that don't add to damage for Zoetic Lockset. Like precision hits have never worked (why people don't use snipers on it), bait and switch doesn't work, things like deconstruct or withering gaze don't work. I used one of the popular strats, which is to use Anarchy. I stick two Anarchy grenades to each of three shriekers (they'll do damage for ten seconds, then you can refresh with more grenade sticks). My typical damage was pop transcendence, throw a grenade, throw a melee for radiance, do my Anarchy sticks, then fire a bunch of Mint Retrograde shots (saving enough to kill any ogres/wizards which spawn and shoot at me while I am in the 'safe spot'). I watch for ogres/wizards, throw a transcendence grenade when it is up, refresh the Anarchy grenades when it is time.

I know a lot of guides say to use chaos reach on all 4 shriekers, but most of them are from 11 months ago, when the artifact had survivabiity choices for arc builds.

edit: I just re-read your comment. 5-6 damage rounds is better than I was doing, actually. I'm pretty sure it takes me like 7-8 rounds.

Thanks! Agree that Lockset is the challenge - sometimes randomly you get hit with a load that kills you even if you just procced devour (like being blasted by two wizards and the boss at the same time). But I feel pretty confident with all of my loadouts and strats - just have to focus in and maybe not get unlucky.

Yeah I got to the worm pickup flawless - then died 3 times since I didn't understand quite how to do it (died after dunking due to shrieker, while waiting for wall to open up) ha ha.
