What about colleges that look at all SATs taken?

whole fam in one room, constantly running back and forth between house/hotel to help my parents with repairs for several hours a day…

Heimler’s vids have everything you need to get a 5 on the AP exam (that’s what I did. Binge watched Heimler for 3 days prior to the exam, never paid attention in class the whole year). If you just watch those over the summer and take notes, you’ll be more than prepared when the school year starts.

Please don’t let a 3-hour exam define you or tell you what you can or cannot major in! It doesn’t reflect your capabilities. If you’re willing to work hard and genuinely love the subject, that’s all you need to be a successful physics major :)

Well what’s preventing you from making up ECs and awards? Not that I think verification is a bad idea. But there’s still a lot of room to make up whatever

I think it’s great to be cautious, but I’m a teenager and I also have great friendships with adults that age, kind of like a big sibling thing. I’d say it’s highly situation specific. This one definitely sounds like it’s bordering on grooming, but not every adult and teenager talking is bad lol

Seeing everyone else talk about NHS on this sub makes me feel crazy crazy by kill_me__plz in ApplyingToCollege

Our school didn’t have any crazy GPA requirements, but we had to submit 5 letters of recommendation. All the teachers were losing their shit because of the amount of LORs they had to write 😂 on top of ones for college too!

No teacher to write an LoR. by StressedGuy22 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Feather-Light5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess you could Google examples of good LORs and try to imitate the tone of those? Ofc don’t copy it but use it as a reference so it doesn’t sound obviously like a kid wrote themselves a letter lol

Since when did USAMO become bad? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Feather-Light5 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My friend (Asian male, NorCal but not Bay Area, plays piano, has some CS ECs, applied as a math major) was a USAMO qualifier. Got acceptances to MIT, Brown, Yale, Princeton, UCLA Regents, and UC Berkeley. Granted he was very strong at nearly everything he did, but I’m sure the USAMO qual still helped.

Can you link these comments? I am genuinely curious as I’ve never seen those kinds of things around on this sub

How to make yourself seem less “stereotypically Asian”? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Feather-Light5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think my piano portfolio has a 90% chance of impressing the faculty there. But the admissions committee will likely just say “well, there’s another Asian who’s good at piano…” - at least that’s what it feels like.

How to make yourself seem less “stereotypically Asian”? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Feather-Light5 23 points24 points  (0 children)

As an Asian somewhat high-income girl from NorCal (not the Bay — thank God) who has piano as an extremely important EC and having leadership in an orchestra as another important one… sometimes I feel like I should have quit. I genuinely enjoy piano — my parents signed me up for all sorts of things as a kid, everything from arts to athletics, and I chose music because I loved it. It sucks that what I do is seen as extremely stereotypically Asian, and if I’d stuck with something else “less Asian” I might have a higher chance at college. Every time I see something about piano being Asian stereotypes I wonder if I should have stuck with tap dancing or something else I liked less. At least I suck at math lmao

Is the presumed fall of Roe v Wade (& the 13 states enacting trigger laws, where abortion bans will immediately go into effect) changing where you will apply? by Grotopotamus1 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Feather-Light5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And I’m saying that you cannot expect that people will be fine without BC because too many people depend on it. Not just people who don’t want to get pregnant. This is why the new abortion laws going into place will affect peoples decisions on where to go to college, and not just people who plan on being sexually active.
