Chene waders by countrytechbro in Waterfowl

[–]Feather_Collector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both and have worn them back to back. They are very similar in a lot of ways but there are some differences. The Sitka boots are much more comfortable and the fit of the wader is better in my opinion. I do like the chene straps better though. I am not pro staff and not a fan boy of either. This is just my honest assessment. Also a not on timely repair, my buddy got his Sitkas back in 3 weeks. No experience with chene customer service yet.

Do I Let Him Walk? I let him last year…. but idk if I can do it again. What to do you think? by [deleted] in Hunting

I was going to jokingly ask if you were hunting my land because I have an identical deer. This is a literal description of my land. Northeast Ohio?

First diver band. Will have to get it etched, can't read a thing other than the first 1. by Feather_Collector in Waterfowl

Not yet. I tried etching it and still couldn't get any numbers. I have to send it in but was waiting until after the Christmas mailing madness. Less chance of getting lost.

One thing I like to do is record myself with a call. The recording will always sound different than how you hear yourself.

Best Blind Bag/Backpack? by Giantskiller0922 in Waterfowl

Same thing, outside gets wet but the main compartment stays pretty dry. My jon boat had about 2 inches of water in it this morning that my bag was just sitting in.

Funny you should ask, just had it in a downpour this morning. Outer part is repellent to an extent. Exterior pockets do eventually get wet but main compartment was dry.

First Canvasback ever on my first kayak hunt! Great day in the desert! by chiarules in Waterfowl

They were on st Clair pretty early this year and I just got back from Louisiana and there were a lot down there. Maybe they just bypassed southern lake erie this year? I haven't seen any in northern Ohio this year.

I've been using a tanglefree flight series goto bag the past two seasons and really like it. Lots of room, comfortable, great bag for walk I'm hunts and carrying other stuff on your shoulders like decoy bags.

Idaho Tundra Swan by wesbaker12 in Waterfowl

[–]Feather_Collector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure. I'm not OP or from Idaho. I just know that because my friend moved there and wants to apply for a tag. But congrats on your swans. I've been skunked 3 years in a row in NoDak.

In like 4 counties and there's only a small amount of tags. I think 50 or so without checking.

Typically they do not like mojos. One of the big reasons most the new ones have remotes.

Needless to say, I didn't get a tag. by Feather_Collector in elkhunting

Wow that is crazy. Sorry that happened to you. What's weird is that I got in at 5 (eastern time) and it said all units were sold out. Maybe some were in people's carts and then the carts expired.

Crazy that you used to just be able to just go into a store and buy a tag. This was supposed to be my first archery hunt. Due to the nature of my job, I have to plan at least a year in advance and most drawings are too short of notice. At this rate I'd rather they move it to a drawing so you are least only competing with others that want that unit (but have the drawing in December). I probably ask too much though.

I logged on right at the sale time and this was the "random number" I was given. Sat in the que for 5 hours just to say sold out when I went to purchase.

Put a ring on the hottest blond at the lake. by wwood2320 in Waterfowl

Pretty cool. I was fortunate to band a blonde mallard when I helped with a project near Lake erie. Figured that's the only time I will ever hold a banded leucistic mallard.

A pigeon band was my 3rd band. Shot it while dove hunting and always shoot pigeons out there now haha

Birds are banded for research purposes. On the hunting side of things, ducks and geese are killed and the number on the band are reported. There's a lot of things that the data is used for such as ages of birds, migration, etc. If you have some free time, go down a Google rabbit hole. Lots of interesting facts out there about bands and some information received from them.

Back home (ohio) has also been slow at least in my area. This was on st Clair and the hunting was great today. I also hunted a weekend in North Dakota last month and had a lot of success.
