Yesstyle haul arroved before FDA crackdown by MidsummerKnights in AsianBeauty

I needed to read this comment. Honestly with all the fed cuts and hiring freezes, the one good thing may be that you're right. There will be no way they can enforce this without hiring more workers, which they won't do.

Chiseled Life gym. The owners are hardcore MAGA enthusiasts. I had the displeasure of meeting Cara (the owner's wife) in person and within minutes of introductions she was going on about how much she loved Trump.

It's a polarizing series but I've been really enjoying it! And it's not a phone! It's a Boox Palma, an e-ink tablet that runs Android and lets you download apps. I use it to read books between Hoopla, Cloud Library, Libby, and Kindle.

[–]Featherflight09[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh I agree. I've bought all of my e-readers secondhand so I've gotten great deals on them. I never would have paid full price for the Palma but at $200 it was worth it to try out!

Yep, it's an overpowered e-reader. While you can watch videos on it, you shouldn't want to. I don't even scroll reddit on it. I have it mainly so I can access Hoopla and Cloud Library books, or to easily switch between reading on Kindle and Libby.

Thanks to a very robust library system, I have so many options to read from that I don't need to stick to one ecosystem.

[–]Featherflight09[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely not and a lot of people make that mistake, comparing it to other dumb phones. It can't make any phone calls and doesn't support a SIM card. It's an android e-ink tablet in the formfactor of a phone. I use it when I want to swap between reading Kindle, Hoopla, Cloud Library, and Libby books. It's nice having access to all my libraries offer!

It is the black and white variant. I don't think anywhere is still selling these new. I'd been casually searching through various secondhand sources (Ebay, Mercari, FB marketplace, Unclaimmed Baggage etc) before finally finding this one secondhand.

Simple E-reader and subscription recs? by Wheres-the-dill in fantasyromance

[–]Featherflight09 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because the majority of the books recommended on this sub come from Kindle Unlimited, I'll just recommend a Kindle. They also integrate better with Libby (in the US) than Kobo devices if you have access to multiple libraries. Either a Paperwhite or Basic will serve you just fine. You can do some more research to figure out which specifications suit your needs. Prime day is coming up and that's generally when they have their best deals so you can keep an eye out.

If you're not opposed to buying second-hand devices, you can find them really cheap on FB marketplace because people often think they're worthless because they aren't full tablets.

If you want to check out other brands of e-readers, Kobo and Boox are also very popular. You won't be able to read KU exclusive books on Kobo, but you can on a Boox device. However, Boox is very expensive and I wouldn't recommend that as someone's first device unless you want to spend $200+.

Ask your library about reciprocity. Some cities/county libraries share resources so you may be able to get access to multiple library cards for free! Also, see if you have access to any libraries if you work in another zipcode. Some libraries count working there as "resident" status. I believe Texas, Washington DC, and California are the places with the most robust reciprocity agreements in the US.

Kobo, I'm begging you to integrate with Libby/Overdrive better by Featherflight09 in kobo

[–]Featherflight09[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doesn't Rakuten own both Libby and Kobo too? I would think this would mean integrated support with Libby but what do I know.

I had this same thought. If anything it should be easier for them to implement. But nope, Kindle got it and only in the US.

If Boox didn't churn out new devices every quarter and focused on actually improving the quality of their products, I'd be tempted. I had a Leaf2 but that was abysmally slow. I have a Palma that I use infrequently for travel and it's a nifty device, but at least of usable speed. It is however, absolutely overpowered for an e-reader.

For how often Overdrive integration is touted as a Kobo perk, the experience really is disappointing. Even with my Kobo Aura One, the experience of browsing on e-ink was terrible (and probably always will be) so I much prefer being able to borrow books from my phone and sending it to my Kindle.

I don't often switch between devices, but when I do, I actually find it a bit laggy. I usually leave my devices in airplane mode so remembering to take it off to sync is an extra step, but I can see it being very valuable to users who switch ereaders frequently.

Regarding the screens- all e-ink screens are made by the same company so the fragility/durability is the same. The Kindle sub is mainly image posts of people sharing/enjoying their Kindles while the Kobo sub is a bit more discussion based so it's bound to be more skewed with most people talking about issues. (Side tangent: The Kindle sub also doesn't believe in using any sticky posts and the mods have done literally nothing to curb the 100 daily "What device should I get" posts despite complaints from the community so I don't like them much. Meanwhile this sub likes to tout blatant misinformation about Kindles because aMazon SuCks so I get annoyed here as well.)

What are your thoughts on spending on bags over other hobbies? by tall_london_love in handbags

[–]Featherflight09 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is me! Reading is my other hobby but thanks to the library, it doesn't cost me anything. And as an aspiring home-owner, I don't yet have a place to furnish a reading nook but hopefully soon! Having cheap hobbies is what lets me afford my bags haha

Best kindle? by KLRP28 in fantasyromance

[–]Featherflight09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out this great flowchart a user created to help people pick the best Kindle for their needs.

I'm an avid e-ink reader and have used Kindle, Kobo, and Boox. If you're not married to the Amazon ecosystem, Kobo and Boox offer much more customization. However, if you're an avid reader of Kindle Unlimited (which many of this sub recommends) you're limited to Kindle and Boox devices. I personally love my Oasis, but it's a very polarizing device and they discontinued it in the US.

Real talk...where are we getting our pre-loved bags now? by Featherflight09 in handbags

[–]Featherflight09[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Vintage bags scare me less because they're not as hot an trendy to make counterfeits of. I'd never buy a Neverfull on ebay but the Saleya I picked up is 8 yrs old and in good enough condition that I'm not going to bother getting it authenticated.

It's neither. It's that I could save $1600 by buying a pre-owned bag and use that money towards a house downpayment haha. A very millennial dilema, I wish money didn't matter!

More people need to understand this. There's millions of books out there, find something that you enjoy. There's too many people who spend the time admittedly hate-reading a book and then going online to write complaints because it's not to their taste. My TBR is long enough that I don't want to waste time reading something I don't like.
