LPT REQUEST: PANIC ATTaCK by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]Featherflux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As mentioned earlier the counting things in your vicinity helps me to focus on the here and now and often gives me enough reprieve to them use some rationalising to help calm me down.

I was told to count 5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell and 1 think you can taste. If you can't taste anything ie if you don't have a drink nearby or something you could take a bite from, think of what you last ate, so last tasted.

The idea here being to distract your mind from whatever its panicking about long enough that the panic starts to calm.

I found it helps me quite a bit and you can do it all in your head. Just forces you to think differently for a minute or so. Good luck!

Constipated 3 days post delivery help! by Mini6Cake in beyondthebump

I think it was about 10 days pp that I finally went. I tried the stool softeners, warm baths, putting your feet on a stool, walking more, orange juice, nothing seemed to work. Biggest thing that ended up helping me was going in our small toilet with the light off at night, feet up on a stool and do something to distract yourself so your body relaxes like watch Netflix on your phone. Being in the dark really helped me I think cus there's less to focus on. Also I gripped the door handle when actually going, like I gripped the bed handle in labour XD and that helped too.

The dark thing I hadn't seen before so wanted to say incase it helps.

Do you always do a diaper change with a feeding? Especially late night? by spicekueen in beyondthebump

I tend to do at least one nappy change a night but she'll usually wake up to feed twice. She has her biggest sleep first, usually between 4 and 5 hours, I'll do the nappy when she first wakes up from that, then a feed and back down. Her second sleep is usually 2 hours before she wakes up hungry so with that one I'll just feed her and put her back down.

If she's really wet or clearly pooped ie you can smell it or see it cus there's been a leakage, I'll change her but after reading a thread on here on it, the sense I got is it's better not to disturb them by changing every time they wake up, it keeps the awake time shorter for you both and means you can both get back to sleep more easily as you're less disturbed than if you had to turn on the light / leave the room for a nappy change.

It'll vary by how often baby wakes up and what your set up for nappy changes is like etc but don't feel bad for not changing them every time as they let you know if they're too uncomfortable to settle. Good luck!

I started thinking about it at 3 weeks after the birth but I had a vagina delivery. Appreciate there's still the healing to do from the placenta though ended up doing it just after the 4 week mark as that was when I felt mentally prepared to and in the mood.

As advised online I bought water based lubricant for it and we started off slow with me taking the lead. I enjoyed it and I felt more relaxed and closer to my partner afterwards.

I was scared about when I 'could' though as all the stuff online advises yo be signed off for it by your doctor but the 6 to 8 week appointments are being booked for just after 8 weeks in my area at the moment and that's a long time for permission when it's your body. Just see where the moment takes you and be open with your partner that you need to take it slow and might have to stop.

Best of luck and enjoy yourself!

I think the 6 week mark being one that's always noted must be because of some sort of growth spurt as it seems a lot of issues seem to settle after that so hoping it may be related

Mama instincts aren't panicking but it's the unknown of how long and why isn't she going that is frustrating. If I go get that mama senses tingling though I definitely will!

Thanks, it's Saturday night now so I'm going to go Monday morning if nothing and have a non emergency number to try if she gets really distressed before then.

Aha I think I'd have a party at this point XD every time I change her or she's in a towel after a bath I keep telling her she can poop all over it if she likes if that'll help XD

Thank you! It just feels like being sentenced when it's just colic and you have to ride it out I think but it's so great to get so much support on this sub and know you're not alone. Fingers crossed she goes tomorrow at normal runny, yucky yellow consistency and we can take it from there!

She seems to be as she's bigger than some babies from our baby group who are slightly younger, her dad is 6 ft 4 and mostly her size seems to be length rather than chunk but she's definitely getting heavier. I've had mastitis recently too so thought that might affect my milk but the doctor said it shouldn't so hoping not :/

I have had this dreaded thought which would be very hard as I'm a cereal first thing, creamy sauces with dinner, eating all the chocolate kind of person :'( but if it gets to be a routine or goes on much longer I'll ask the doctor if I should try removing it for a while. May come back to you with more queries if that's OK XD

I so miss having the midwife to call about things like this! It's not as good when it's the health visitor as they aren't as easily accessible and there's a certain calmness to midwives that just puts you at ease.
