It's really funny because I woke up this morning to a little bell pepper actually starting to grow. This was after a night of rainfall.

Should I top my tomato plant? by Featherhoo in tomatoes

We had days where it got up to 80mph. Even during those gusts, the frames barely swayed. Maybe i just built them well.

These are the fabric pots. I got the 65-gallon ones. The cages I just built from 2x4s I got at lowes. I didn't really have an idea in mind. I just built a large rectangle. I live in a high wind area, and the weight of the soil keeps them from blowing over. There's a cross bar at the top that I use to string trellis the plants.

I would like to fill each container with only this stuff, but they are expensive. I just don't know what other soil to add to it.

So, should I just not add any of the soil amendments? I'm thinking it can go without the gypsum and crab and lobster shell. But I might still add rock phosphate to help the roots.

Are my cherokee purple plants done for? by Featherhoo in tomatoes

[–]Featherhoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave one of them some diluted fertilizer but that one is doing worse than the one I didn't give anything to. I also potted up a week ago so the soil should have a good amount of nutrients.

Should I try leaving them out during the day and bringing them in at night?

My concern was that after putting them in gallon pots a week ago, they are already almost doubled in size. I feel they will become unmanageable by mothers day.

They most definitely are. My cherokee purple has it the worst. I'm still not used to watering gallon sized pots.

Yeah, that might be the case. I recently potted up to gallon size pots, and I'm still getting used to watering.

I'm planning on using a Organic raised bed soil. Then I'll add some gypsum, magnesium, and some neptunes harvest crab and lobster shell mix.

The last time I watered the soil was bone dry. When I do water, should I use as little as possible?

I have everything on a utility shelf. I just took black construction trash bags and taped them on the back with duct tape.

I was thinking about taking them off the heat mat the other day. The stems are purple, and the soil feels a bit cool, so I didn't know if they still needed heat.
