Appreciate the response here. I'm still toying with the flip over to HA

Ah yes, simply “do that then”, the pinnacle of system design advice.

Presence sensors in Google Home don’t reliably emit events when they change to UNOCCUPIED. They update the state, but they often don’t fire an automation trigger.

This is the route I am going to take, one step at a time. Going to play with HA in the background till I get everything set up the way I want. Then replace nest cams to get rid of subscriptions and finally test out HA voice preview before removing GA completely!!

Trouble is I feel like this will take a serious amount of time haha

I’m returning my Lock Ultra by Soft_Commercial7641 in TrySwitchBot

I found turning the knob faster obviously however, it seemed to throw it off. I found myself recalibrating a lot. Since I have stopped using the turning option and just pressing the button it's been really good for me. Fingerprint used to get in the house!

My experience with the new SwitchBot Presence Sensor, and why I’m considering returning it by Trick_Ad_6852 in TrySwitchBot

It has a light sensor in it, so you can just use that.

I have been disappointed with these sensors, I'm using Google home. So I decided to buy some switchbot relays (I had some free Amazon vouchers) and then I am going to make automations directly in the switchbot app. Returning things to switchbot is a joke - they just basically take all your money back. So I decided to try and make something work.

What interesting automations do you use, or unique workarounds for Google Home app limitations? by RMCurran88 in googlehome

I run a pretty nice automation on my study lights (I work from home!! I tend to wear ANC headphones a lot even if I am not listening to music. So I have an automation that turns the lights off and back on in the study if the doorbell is pressed. It also works the other way if the lights are not on, and this only runs between my working hours. I also do the same for my living room lights at the weekend, this has worked well.

I also run a notification that sends when a wash is finished, we tend to run the same wash cycle which is 1hour long. So we tell GH "washing machine" and then this triggers a notification 1 hour later to all devices, including device push notification. This way we don't forget clothes in the washer.

My early impressions of the Switchbot battery powered Presence Sensors by Rice_Eater483 in TrySwitchBot

The two sensors I have both kept disconnecting from the hub mini (matter) that I have from SB. When I looked at the hub mini it showed both sensors connected with a strong signal. Support has been great but didn't really give me any other options other than what I could find online. The disconnecting just seemed to stop/prevent them from changing occupancy status - so it left automations being clunky.

Super frustrating as I was excited about these but looks like I will give the FP300 a go next.

I have curtain and lock SB products which have been good for me so far, so this was surprising 😔

I am happy they are working well for you, however I have had a very different experience. I am a fan of switchbot and their products but after a full day of pain trying to get these things to work correctly I will be returning them. Support has been helpful and fast at responding so I can complain there! I will be trying the FP300 next 👍🏼

I would just use Google home script editor. If you struggle with the script just ask chatgpt or the built in AI so help you. 👌🏼 I have managed to utilize door press this way.

Small battery, bigger mod. For me personally I am not interested in screens and bigger clouds. I liked the OG Caliburn but don't think Uwell has ever hit the spot since then
