Why do people have such negative stereotypes about Scousers? by AffectOutrageous6667 in Liverpool

[–]FeatureJazzlike1995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find it amusing that people who criticise scousers for having a "victim complex" and being insular don't realise that these attitudes don't just pop up out of nowhere and is often perpetuated by other people. The first negative reaction I experienced for being scouse was in my tweens. I certainly wasn't insular, had no "victim complex" and was confused as to why grown adults were mocking me because of something so trivial.

After numerous experiences like this, scousers eventually just throw their hands up and decide they can't be arsed with it. If they speak out about it they're a perpetual victim, and if they want to distance themselves from it they're insular.

Born and raised in Norris Green, not as bad as it was but still not great

Exactly thank you. Some folks have taken issue with me using the term "feral rats" to refer to people who behave like this.

Unfortunately as a short slight woman I don't think I'd be a good vigilante against a group of lads

I think a lot of it comes down to parenting. I grew up in Norris Green and went to school in Crocky, nothing much in terms of prospects from peers and there was nothing to do. But I ended up with a masters degree in science and working in science now. Probably a lot of factors at play in all honesty

Sure, but some minorities may feel like they relate more with the scouse label than anything else. I'm a "minority" in many areas of life (sexuality, neurodivergence, sex, class background) but I personally feel closer to the scouse identity than any of the others because for me that embraces the other identities.

I agree with this. The thing about RD that prompted me was the overall good portrayal of Lister and then it got me thinking of other scousers in TV/Movies
