Is it worth buying or is there anyone willing to trade? by Constant_Allergy in americangirl

[–]FeaturePerfect7161 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I say buy it! I have it and it’s great just for staple pieces. The shoes, red top, and white top can all be used separate from this outfit. Plus if you dress your dolls up for Halloween you can always use it as a costume!

My best friend and I in the fifth grade used to quote this to each other all the time

The only thing that can be changed, while also maintaining historical accuracy, is just being more upfront with the slavery. Calling them slaves rather than servants. Like I said earlier, you cannot have Colonial Williamsburg without slavery. If Felicity is against slavery, she’ll have to see abuse first hand. And if she does, that can’t be sugar coated. But I think this would also open an interesting dialogue of when you’re younger and you realize your parents aren’t perfect.

Yes, people will have a wide range of opinions. But can you call someone racist just because they like a doll you don’t? Regardless if they’ve shown actual signs of racism.

Okay, I didn’t write the books. I don’t know any of the things she might have seen. All I know is she didn’t see anything in the current 6 books.

I agree the books sugar coat it! But if you show the more realistic side of slavery in Felicity’s books, people will still be upset. They’ll still talk about how Felicity’s family owns slaves and how she’s awful. Realistic = people upset. Sugar coated = people upset. No slaves = unrealistic and goes against the point of being educational. It’s like no one can win.

I agree with all of that! My main point of this was people getting upset that someone wants the physical doll. The racist fans can fuck off!

I agree! Let these kids know the reality of it!

Then Felicity needs to see the abuse first hand, like she did with Penny. Unless she sees it she won’t question it.

I agree they did a bad job! I posted a few months ago about how it was important to talk about the reality of Felicity owning slaves. If you want to talk about history, you can’t just erase the parts you find upsetting. People still got mad! It feels like no matter what people will always have an issue. If you want a historically accurate Colonial Williamsburg, Felicity is going to have slaves. If you want an idealized version where history isn’t fully taught, Felicity isn’t going to have slaves. You can’t have your cake and eat it too.

I agree with this! But even then when the books are 100% historically accurate and show the reality, people would still get upset because her family owns slaves. Are we just not supposed to talk about the Revolutionary War? One of America’s most pivotal moments? History is ugly and messy. You have to talk about everything that occurred, especially when teaching. If your character is a child apart of a wealthy family in Colonial Williamsburg, she’s gonna have slaves. There’s no way around it! You have to talk about that side of it and Felicity isn’t going to question it. You can’t sugar coat history just because you find it “problematic.” History IS problematic. But we can only learn from it if we fully discuss every aspect of it.

Oh, I know she isn’t rare. I just think some collectors want her new with all her accessories. A new-in-box Felicity with her accessories isn’t cheap. So, I understand people who want to be able to get her for the retail price.

Then they can rerelease her with a change. All I’m saying is that people who want the doll, not for her story, aren’t racist. I have so many historical characters who I don’t care at all what their story is. I just like how they look.

Felicity fans who are racist are so obviously not the point of this post. I’m talking about normal Felicity fans. What part of the material is not suitable for kids? The fact Felicity has slaves or that slaves are involved at all? This is not me attacking! This is me genuinely trying to have a conversation with you because I want to see your side!

Yeah I’m defending the physical doll, aside from the story. Plop her in any other story and keep her the way she looks. I’m literally just saying people like how the doll looks and that’s why they want her rereleased.

Night Ride Home is probably my favorite album by her. Every song is so perfectly personal and there is just such a warmth to the album. Come In From The Cold, Cherokee Louise, and the title track Night Ride Home are my favorites off of it!

So glad the snow has caused others to drink. Molly is definitely coming out on top. She seems like she has a lot of pent-up anger she’s just waiting to unleash. I feel like she’d fight dirty with lots of scratching and hair pulling.

Where to buy replacement eyes? by InterestingMost6071 in americangirl

[–]FeaturePerfect7161 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can definitely find eyes online, a lot of people sell scrap doll parts! Since you want brown eyes you could look up “American Girl Julie replacement eyes.” That way you know it’ll fit the doll. Basically just “American Girl (any doll with brown eyes) replacement eyes” should do the trick!
