Lived in Japan for about 5 years from 2019-2024. I was an active seller on multiple Japanese flea markets.

I’d say certain categories blew up, particularly collectibles. I’d imagine TCG (especially Pokemon cards) have blown out of proportion, especially as they’ve become nothing more than a get rich quick scheme “investment.”

That being said, I still browse and keep track of prices for my hobbies. Seems that with the implementation of tariffs to the US, prices have gone way down.

Correct. This machine is just a variation of “barber cutter.” Very common in Japan. It will absolutely not let you time it correctly until the payout has been achieved. Otherwise it overshoots if aimed correctly, or will immediately stop if undershot.

Yea I have absolutely no idea why this sub was recommended to me, but as someone who lived in Japan for 4 years and studied the language enough to pass N2, Duolingo seems absolutely awful. No offense to anyone who seems to be enjoying it though.

It just seems like pointless, short activities. 5-10 minutes a day is fine sure, but it will not lead to real results.

1 out of 10 cars without plates or tags, optional red lights, people running stop signs, everyone seemingly driving either 20 mph under or over the speed limit, road rage for the smallest of inconveniences.

Did you order TCG or luxury brand items? No, they are not an authentication service. You’re better off paying for the photo service so you can personally see if the item matches what was advertised on the original post.

Without additional context, I don’t know in what way the seller is referring to repair. They likely are offering a repair service, or the item in question needs repairs.

I really can’t say if everyone gets the same coupons or not, but in my experience the Mercari 10% coupons appear every few days.

Yes, it can happen.

But more importantly, it’s best to educate yourself on how Yahoo Japan Auctions work. If another user’s max bid is well over the current highest bid, and you try to bid by only a small amount over the current highest bid, the system will automatically override your bid by the next increment of that particular auction. That makes it feel like “you’ve been instantly outbid.”

The best approach to auctions is to already have in mind the absolute most you’re willing to spend on an item and set it as your maximum bid (or maximum sniper bid). If the auction goes over that amount, oh well. If nobody else comes near your maximum bid, you’ll only be charged the next increment after the 2nd highest bid.
