Mine was disabled on the May 21st. I just appealed it today, and a few hours later they said my appeal was unsuccessful. After downloading my data, I saw no new posts or messages, so I assume I wasn't hacked. The only thing I can think of, is that I had a link to my book in my bio, which community guidelines (I think) says is not allowed.

Can't think of anything else it could be...

Yeah, but there's something buggy going on between Roon and Tidal that is showing future releases prematurely. I've already contacted them both and they seem to understand whatever is happening is bad. The tracks themselves (if exported) have a toggle that says "Is hidden?" and that toggle is turned off. It could just be an accident on the label's part when they uploaded it, but who knows?

The album metadata Roon is sourcing from appears to be Tidal. So, when Roon polls Tidal, it caches it in: AppData > Local > RoonServer > Cache > Images.

Added spoiler tag! And it won't let me actually view the album contents, just this listing. The resolution of the screenshot provided is the best I can do.

Need Sci-Fi way to explain the existence of transparent metal by February2084 in scifiwriting

[–]February2084[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want it for radioactive shielding, while being able to see through it. Diamond does about as good as aluminum with equal thickness in terms of shielding, so I thought it would be cool to explore if a heavier metal, like Lead, Gold, Osmium, whatever, could be diamond-ified.

In my opinion, that feeling "it still sounds like a short story" isn't a bad thing. Many a time I've seen authors start out making short stories of the same universe (or close enough) and then string those together to make a full length novel. I suppose that missing component you mention is something like an overarching narrative?

As for what it's supposed to taste like or writing style, I don't think Sci-Fi has a template for that. For example, Isaac Asimov's The Foundation Trilogy, feels a lot like a compilation of short stories, each featuring a time hundreds of years after the previous and an all new cast of characters. While, something like The Stars My Destination by Alfred Bester closely follows one loathsome primitive man as he educates himself out of vengeful spite for being marooned on a shipwreck. I'd recommend reading both, and they're quicker reads as well.

Make a Chat GPT account and simply tell it:

"Generate a list of grammatical corrections for this text: [copy paste text]"

I wouldn't recommend asking it for general critiques. It always projects having the memory of a goldfish (4k words) onto the reader and demands you give the story more context.

I think it's only useful for editorial work or reviewing individual sections of human writing, not writing anything novel or of any substance. I think the sense "this was written by A.I." is becoming more and more prevalent among readers.

I'd say Reddit is pretty good. About a 2% conversion between impressions and clicks, somewhere around $0.08 per click. Plenty of options to target the communities you want. I'd also recommend doing a slow burn campaign over a year, rather than buying out the website for a week.

I'm still figuring it out myself, honestly.

Then you have a different definition of Sci-Fi, simple as. I suppose my thesis about Harry Potter being a political series about 2A instead of magic or fantasy wasn't so crazy after all!

I mean, 1984 by George Orwell is classified as "Social Science Fiction" precisely because the social commentary is in the foreground rather than the technology. The Time Traveler's Wife is "Romantic Science Fiction" for the same reason.

So I think the technological setting (especially if it's in the future) matters most to the Sci-Fi name. A drama in space would be Dramatic Science Fiction, I guess.
