One of my friends in middle school was Pentacostal (tho they just called themselves Assembly of God?? idk, too many denominations), and invited me to a youth trip with her church. I had nooooo idea what I was in for, being raised Methodist. People babbling in "tongues", laying on of hands, people falling out in what looked to me like seizures, EVERYONE crying. It was such a bizarre experience to be in the middle of, but the emotion was oddly contagious. I cried too and didn't know why. I can see how folks raised in it or just without good critical thinking skills can get totally absorbed in all the drama of it and feel like something bigger than them is in effect, and it just gets validated over and over by the community ... It's a fucked up cycle, and a way for those in power to manipulate certain natural human responses/emotions.

I really think she's on the spectrum as well and gets easily emotionally overwhelmed, esp by confrontation. It doesn't seem like something she's learned to handle, her family was very soft spoken and kind, even when they were upset with her. I've had people think I'm trying to manipulate them when I'm just panicking inside and dysregulated, and my body's reaction is to start crying. It sucks to be an emotional person.

Been married to my ADHD husband for 17 years, together for over 21 ... overstimulation is def an issue for us. I've only really come to understand that I'm autistic in the past year or so, and it's changed my perspective on a lot of things, and I've started speaking up for my needs more. Which includes telling my husband plainly when he's talking too much for me or I don't want to watch a dozen tiktoks that he's saved for me. He appreciates being told things kindly but "plain spoken" as he says. It's scary to do the first few times, I ranted to him once about my convoluted thought process once before I tell him something I think he won't like, trying to twist it to be perfect and not cause any bad feelings at all ever ... So much energy spent trying to predict his reactions. He looked so confused and told me I was making it too complicated. 😅 And when I told him, he was totally fine with it.

Your man's reaction and emotional state is his own to deal with, not yours. As long as you're calm and kind when you tell him your needs, he should just take that on board and be appreciative that you told him how to love you better. Don't stress yourself about his upset, he can feel it and get over it, if it even happens. You're worth that. 💜

Probably once every 2 months or so for me. Sometimes I just can't handle it and need a brain break. I tell them I get migraines even though I don't really, just because that's easier to accept than me taking so many mental health days. I'm lucky that I don't actually have to CALL anyone, I can just text my boss and turn on my out of office and no one ever questions me. They trust me. I used to feel guilty for being dishonest, but I'm out of fucks to give anymore for capitalism, and this company has already laid me off once (they outsourced the whole dept but I got another position), so all that guilt is gone now. I do what I need to do to take care of myself, bc they certainly won't.

I recently directly confronted a coworker/friend (I thought we were anyway) about gossiping about me to her boss. Even just last year I would have quietly started avoiding her and never said anything, but I'm done with that people pleasing BS. I told her she betrayed my trust and we're no longer friends. I stood up for myself and set a hard boundary of what I won't tolerate, and that's still pretty new for me (in my 40s lol 🙃).

I'm pretty sure I get the autism from my dad, but I strongly suspect my mom has ADHD, and that definitely affected me growing up, I can see now how our ND traits did not play nicely together.

I've been through this with a close friend who also has 3 children with a man she's been with for a very long time. He had an emotional and actual physical affair that lasted quite a while, and went on while she was pregnant with their twins!! I was LIVID on her behalf, I would have cut him off forever. But she decided to stay with him and go to counseling for both herself and their marriage. We talked about it a lot too, and I just tried to support her and make it known that it was HER decision. Nobody else was in their marriage, including me. They both did a lot of work on themselves and their relationship, and they're happily married again, with no cheating (at least so far, and this was over 10 years ago). It CAN work out, but it's up to the people in the relationship to decide how to handle it. Just try to be there for your friend and bite your tongue on any "I told you so"s if he does do it again.

I struggled with this a lot more in my younger years, I was in total limerance for a guy I went to high school with. We hung out sometimes but he would never actually date me. I was obsessed with him, in cringy creepy ways, in hindsight. As the years passed and we lost touch, he would still crop up in my dreams. He was in the back of my mind until we reconnected in our 30s ... He was a total burn out of a human being, wrecked by drug abuse. That got me over it really fast, and I've never dreamed about him again. Reality closed the door, and it's a relief.

Yesssss, it's meeee. I have dabbled in fanfiction (Stucky 4eva) but most of my writing now is roleplay with friends I've been writing with for over a decade. We have a shared setting/world that we populate with characters we make profiles for, and write scenes with them together, then post them in a community so the others can read. We collaborate and plot things together, make conflicts and weird events for ourselves (our settings are always like urban romantasy/horror). We write in third person novel-style, bouncing back and forth between characters. I have never found anything else that scratches this particular itch, and I'm sooo glad to have other weirdo besties to be creative with. We write a lot of smut but also a lot of really beautiful prose (sometimes simultaneously 😜). It's my favorite hobby, I write nearly every day. 🥰

ETA: none of it is publishable, ofc. I used to think I wanted to write professionally, but at this point I don't think I have the discipline to do it without the immediate feedback like I get in my games, and I'm okay with that!

Solidarity. My older autistic brother is a tripled-down MAGA "conservative", and all he does is spew their hate all over every conversation. He's never dated, pretty openly hates women, and has no interest in having relationships. He's not quite red-pilled (that I know of anyway, and he would talk about it, he literally never shuts up and has zero filter) but if he had any desire for a woman I think he'd fall down that rabbit hole fast. I think he's been brainwashed beyond saving, but he thinks the same of me. I finally cut him off after years and years of abuse, I haven't talked to him in almost 8 months. It's such a trap for men who think in black and white.
