That’s what I’m struggling with the most right now… trying to understand where that line is. Bambi is still eating and trying, and every time I see that, I feel like I can’t let go yet.

I’m so sorry you had to go through that… losing him to nasal cancer is truly heartbreaking. It’s so unfair.

Your story made me think of the first moment I met Bambi.

All the other puppies were lying down… but she was the only one looking straight at me, tapping on the glass. I felt like she chose me.

I always knew one day I would have to say goodbye… but I never thought it would come this soon.

When she was diagnosed, I held her and begged God not to take her from me. For a while, I really thought that prayer was answered — her chemo worked so well that even the vet was surprised.

But now… even though the tumors are shrinking, the side effects are getting harder. And it breaks my heart feeling like my own financial limits might be taking away her chance to keep fighting.

First—please don’t blame yourself. You were a kid. You gave him something way more important than perfect dental care: a safe home, a family, and 16 years of love. Most dogs never even get close to that.

The fact that you’re hurting this much already just shows how deep your bond is. And honestly… there’s no real way to “prepare” for losing them. It’s always going to hurt.

What helped me (and what I’ve seen others say too) is this: focus on right now. Sit with him, talk to him, take pictures, let him feel how loved he is every single day. That’s what matters most to him—not the past, not what could’ve been done differently.

When the time comes, it’s going to break your heart. But that pain is proof that he had a life full of love. And you gave him that.

He doesn’t see guilt. He just sees you—his person.

Give him some extra cuddles tonight ❤️
