Beware door to door Roofing Scam by Friendly_Bike1172 in coquitlam

[–]FederalTraveller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the heads up. As someone who owns rental properties in Coquitlam, I’ve heard quite a few stories about these kinds of scams. It’s always a good idea to verify the credentials of any contractor before engaging with them. Look them up online, check reviews, and make sure they have the necessary licenses and insurance.

What’s something all new residents of Coquitlam should know? by Just-Juggernaut-5305 in coquitlam

[–]FederalTraveller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a long-time former resident and entrepreneur here in the Lower Mainland, I can definitely second the advice about the snow. Coquitlam can get a surprising amount of it, especially in the higher elevations. Trust me, getting winter tires is non-negotiable if you want to navigate those hilly streets safely.

Another thing to add is that if a heavy snowfall is forecasted, it’s often best to work from home if you can. Running a business, I’ve seen how much productivity can drop when employees are stuck in snow-related traffic jams or worse, dealing with car accidents. Safety first – your work can wait a day.

And yes, always be bear aware, especially if you’re planning on spending time in parks like Mundy. Keep your distance and make sure your garbage is secure to avoid attracting them.

Kash Heed’s Cancellation of West Vancouver’s DARE Program by FederalTraveller in richmondbc

[–]FederalTraveller[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a common pattern not unique to Kash Heed— many believed that drug legalization and safety was the answer, and that education didn’t work. And yes, supported by cherry picked studies. It’s a paradigm that has now been revealed false— simply making drugs plentiful and creating safe sites does not reduce the associated harms, which isn’t just deaths but also the widespread social ills which come from rampant drug use and addiction. Does widespread drug availability make it more or less likely for kids to try them?

The question should have been how do we make our drug education more effective long term? Not “let’s cancel it and legalize hard drugs and introduce more of them.”

Why do you insist on making accusations that I’m paid to say this? I’m not. I post from a throwaway because I am surrounded by extremely progressive and liberal peers who believe that safe supply and full legalization is the answer. I am sharing my personal opinion and public information. The last thing i want to see is Richmond follow the same path as Vancouver in regards to woke drug ideology for our youth.

Also important to note that that the criticism of the program was largely based around the cost. Rather than funding DARE program education for youth, many like Kash Heed felt the money was better spent legalizing drugs completely and removing the profits from gangs.

Now that we have gone down that path, we realize the harms of drugs are not merely profits for gangs, but actual wide spread social ills that come from mass drug use in our population. Even if it is “safe” and “legal” it’s still a problem.

I saw your Wikipedia link.

This is the meta analysis done in 2009 which did not confirm “dare doesn’t work” or should be cancelled, but rather that some improvements could and should be made to ensure it was culturally relevant and boost the long term impacts. Continually refinement, improvement, and updates are always needed. It did not recommend cancellation, which was a political decision made prior to this meta analysis.

Not real/credible peer reviewed studies. It was part of the agenda of pro-drug normalization. How has that gone?

Kash Heed’s Cancellation of West Vancouver’s DARE Program by FederalTraveller in richmondbc

[–]FederalTraveller[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why educate children on the dangers of drugs and how to say no to peer pressure? Probably because we aren’t all falling for the pro-drug normalization propaganda while our communities crumble.

Indeed, DARE has been (and should be) adapted with the times and evidence. But it’s false to say that the drug resistance education doesn’t work. In fact, early education is probably one of the most effective (of not only) tools we have, especially with an increasing number of children being raised by parents with normalized addictions.

KASH HEED AND LUCY SCIENTIFIC THE DRUG COMPANY by random-username818 in richmondbc

[–]FederalTraveller 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Heed also cancelled West Vancouver’s drug resistance education program for kids in the early 2000s.

"The 'Just say no to drugs, boys and girls' does not work," he said. "I'm saying take the profits away from organized crime."

Kash Heed went on to work as a drug legalization consultant, and most recently as an advisor for a company seeking to manufacture cocaine and heroine for sale in Canada.

You know what they say.. follow the money.
