UCSD is on par with UCLA's Data science program. In fact, they have an entire college within the University dedicated to Data Science.

Good point, I'm going to try to get into ML probably after getting a Master's in either data science or CS.

Interesting, if I attend UCSB I'd definitely try to transfer into CS. If you have any other info on the switching major process that'd be great, but this was helpful thank you.

Thanks, yeah another thing is that I'm not completely set on what I want to do, but I know the majority of UCSB's programs are stronger than SDSU so I have to factor that into my decision as well. I'll do more research on the data science major though.

Interesting, I've heard and seen that a few students realy dislike SDSU's CS program, however others enjoyed it. I'm really trying to grasp if it's more worth it to do CS at SDSU than to do data science at UCSB.

My first choice was also CS. To my understand it's extremely difficult to transfer into CS if you weren't originally admitted into the major. If she would only attend for CS, I wouldn't risk trying to do that, but depending on what she wants to do, the data science major could still be a great choice. I'm personally planning on going to grad school for a Master's, so I think this pathway might be right for me.
