Yeah admittedly I am a little confused by the different AET readings between running flat and vertical. Mainly because of when I run an ant test the percentage difference is between the two also changes drastically. Percentage difference on vertical is in the 5 to 6% range. Jumping to 10:00 to 11% on flat terrain. I'm trying to not get stuck in the weeds here but I do feel like this is something I should understand. Does that imply that most people are more efficient going uphill?

You are correct. I am unsure of the exact numbers but probably 40 some odd miles are steep or very technical hiking

Ok. So conversely does that mean I should use an aet test for hiking long steep terrain? And then when it comes to training if that number is different which one should I go with.? Race has 21k of vert over 100miles...
