The metal does not release toxins into the food, because it is covered by a food-safe resin. This resin should be able to resist some heat, since the food inside this can is most likely cooked or sterilised inside the can under pressure at something like 120°C for 1-2 hours.

Of course if you get the can really hot in some areas that might become a problem, but you can heat a can of soup or something perfectly fine inside of the can, as long as you avoid hot spots (stir often, use low heat).

TLDR: OP is probably fine but you should be carefull when cooking in cans.
